Question about Black & Decker 14" Grass Hog Xp Trimmer/Edger

1 Answer

Grasshog makes shrill noise; will not turn, I took off head, ck'd that there was plenty of line; put it back together. Where the line comes thru the tiny part with a round hole, one side is missing the tiny part. Should that cause the nonworking shrill sound?

I think this trimmer is a hunk of junk. Don't bother paying to get it fixed. I have had mine less than a year and a few minutes ago it just quit working. The motor comes on but nothing happening. I looked at the reviews and this seems to be a frequent and common problem. I am so frustrated. Will not buy another of these. It stinks.

The wheels on my Polaris 3900 don't move. Plenty of water coming thru the thrust and the tail wags. When I move the wheels manually they all move together.

There are a couple things that you should check with these pool cleaners if the wheels are functioning properly. Check the filter screen in the in-line filter assembly and clean if necessary.Make sure that you do not have any debris or obstructions that could be halting wheel function. Even though you seem to have plenty of water, check the RPM and make sure they are between 28 and 32.

E-1 code were are the filters ? how long are the

In order to find the fuel and air filters you must first remove the top section of the heater tube, this is done by removing the six to eight 5/16" hex headed screws. Now once the top section has been removed you will have access to the fuel lines, they vary in length as to where they go so a simple measurement takes care of that situation. Filters are as follows, the air filter is at the back of the heater assembly, it is usually a foam filter and it is in the air pump ( black plastic pump). Then there are actually two different fuel filters, first one is a screen filter just behind the fuel nozzle. You have to remove the fuel nozzle and there is the screen filter, while you have the nozzle out you can clean it by using a blow gun and compressor to blow air thru the nozzle and make sure there is no blockages. The second is located under the side cover, so trace your fuel line down to where it comes thru the heater tube and again remove the 5/16" hex head screws to expose the fuel line. Now some have the filter right there in plain sight and some depending upon the year have it in a grommet in the fuel tank top.Again remove it and I clean it the same way with compressed air blowing backwards thru it as well. Make sure that you have tight fits on all fuel and air lines, make sure the nozzle is clean ,the screen filter is clean, and put the nozzle assembly back together. be careful not to damage the nozzle. While you have the heater down make sure to clean the flame sensor, for this I use windex and a soft terry cloth rag. Put the heater tube back together and you are ready to test.

Engine is making a buzzing noise

Hi mate
I'm no professional but when was the bike last rebuilt? it could be piston slap!?! I think this is when the piston wears too much and moves side to side in the barrel. try taking the spark plug out and gently turning it over you should be able to hear a knock as the piston goes up and when it comes down again.
Another method is when its running put a screwdriver on the barrel and put your ear to the other end, sounds mad but you can hear all the little knocks!
I hope this helps a bit good luck James

Marshall MG100HDFX Amplifier Head does not turn on

If you connected both speaker outputs of the two heads together you likely destroyed the output transistors of one or both heads. assuming they are solid state. It is unlikely a tube amp would have much damage.

The sequence would be that when you started driving the second unit, the feedback paths within it would fight the attempt to drive backwards and the output transistors would first overheat and then short, This would put a shoirt on the power supply and blow the fuse. The damage would be permanent and would LIKELY NOT include the transformer.

Expect the power transistors, driver transistors, associated resistors to go up in smoke. The unit will have to go to a shop to repair. Probably $30 of parts wholesale, but labor is going to cost you for sure. Expensive mistake.
Refurbing this has to be done carefully to insure all bad parts are replaced as a single bad one left in can blow the whole lot again.

The new Speakon connections avoid some of these mistakes... but not all.

Operate ALL you equipment from a single point source of power to avoid ground loop and faults from causing "common mode" destruction of circuitry.
