Question about Frigidaire GLRS267ZA Side by Side Refrigerator

Open Question

My Frigidaire, Model # GLRS267ZA is not cooling nor freezing. It began yesterday when I emtied the ice bucket into a cooler and then replaced the ice bucket into the freezer. Could that have damaged the compressor or caused it to stop cooling/freezing?

SOURCE: Problems with Frigidaire Refrigerator not cooling

In turning it off you may have only closed the air damper. Set it to 1/2 way.
If ice or frost in the air damper area on refrigerator side you may not be defrosting the freezer coil.

Inspect from bottom looking up with a mirror and flashlight. You should have no Ice buildup frost that is even and white is normal. Feel Check the back wall mid way down to 1/4 way to bottom. Push on the wall slightly. Crunching like frost or snow behind wall is not normal. I suspect non defrosting here.
Next eliminate the inside fan motor. It has to run to push air all over the freezer and refrigerator. If this fan doesn't run the results will be only the area with the refrigeration evaporator coil will cool and it may get too cold and resemble a non defrosting situation where the air is not able to circulate because of frost build up.

Next eliminate the Ice maker and light as a source of heat. Unscrew and unplug them
.
Next eliminate the door gaskets from not sealing. A piece of paper set tween the door and frame and pulled across it and you feel resistance all the way and the gaskets are smooth and not warped they are OK

Next inspect the condenser fan and coil by the compressor underneath. A dirty coil here will cause diminished heat removal and possible for a partial cooling of some of the freezer.

Only after inspecting all these items and determining they are OK should you proceed with refrigerant checking. Also a person with out the ability to measure the actual amount of refrigerant being put in should be shown the door. Even with topping off (adding some) refrigerant I use a scale to determine that I do not put in too much. So if you have a friend that does this and no way to tell how much is too much.... well with all due respect your getting what you pay for.

If this helps you understand your problem and need more information please post back, I will follow up. If it helped you determine your trouble please rate me as high as you can. Thank You for using fixya and good luck.

SOURCE: freezer freezing and refrigerator not cooling

When it build up ice in the freezer the cold air can't go through to the fridge , this could be because : the fan doesn't work. the unit is low in refrigerant or the defrost timer or heater are bad , if the fan works take off the back pannel inside the freezer and if is only cover with ice part of it and the rest of the coil is clear of ice ,it means that is low on refrigerant (it is a seal system so there's a leak and has to be repair and recharged with freon), but if the coil is all cover with ice the problem is with the defrost system(timer or heaters) you can check the heaters for continuity if open replaced it if ok replace the timer.

SOURCE: We emptied ice bucket to fill cooler. Now all we

There is a metal rod under the ice bucket. This rod sticks out from the back of the bucket. Where it inserts into the ice shelf, you will see a small square hole. This is what changes it from crushed to cubed. It is an actuator that moves the rod to allow cubes to come out. Stick a screwdriver into the square hole and move the actuator up and down. Then reinsert the ice-bucket and that should fix the problem. Hope this helps.

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

Ice dispenser crushes ice when cube is pushed

the little gate/door, is a common issue, its a solenoid htat either burns out, or merelt freezes over. if you put your finger into where teh "shepard hook" supposed otgo, can you freely lift it ip and down???i would assum not, .the entire ***,bly lifts out of freezer( remove 2 1/4 inch scres under each corner and diconnect apower plug behind the ice maker. from ther you can try to defrost teh piston,if not rplace it.

Water leak

IF THE ICE MAKER AND DISPENSER ARE BOTH OFF, THE WATER VALVE IS THE PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD ONLY BE WATER RUNNING WHEN THE ICE MAKER CALLS FOR IT, AND THAT SHOULD ONLY BE ABOUT 7 SECONDS WORTH,
(4 OUNCES).
THE ONLY THING THAT PUZZLES ME ABOUT YOUR DESCRIPTION IS THAT YOU SAY ICE FREEZES OVER THE COMPRESSOR. THE COMPRESSOR IS THE HOT ROUND OBJECT LOCATED UNDER THE REFRIGERATOR OUTSIDE THE COOLING COMPARTMNTS. FREEZING ONLY TAKES PLACE IN THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT. ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE EVAPORATOR COILS? IF THERE IS WATER THERE, THE ICE MAKER COULD BE STUCK IN THE FILL MODE AND THE BACK OF THE ICE MAKER FROZEN SO THE WATER CAN'T REACH THE MOLD OF THE ICE MAKER.
CHECK THE FRONT OF THE ICE MAKER BEHIND THE COVER FOR A BROKEN GEAR. IF IT HAS WRITING ON IT THAT SAYS DO NOT ROTATE MANUALLY, YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE MODULE ON THE FRONT OF THE ICE MAKER.

Fridge area freezing food; water dispensor line freezing

sometimes when the cooler weather comes in you may need to chnge temp setings to a warmer setting to prevent some items from freezing ie: leafy vegetables, water bottles, eggs, etc etc.

now if you are having total freeze up of everything in the ref section then you could have bad temp control or damper assy.
