See if one of your soft-key combinations will switch the video. Many laptops use a combination of FN+<another key> to switch video modes from internal to external or both. Perhaps yours got switched to internal only?

Unless you hook HDMI to HDMI, you won't carry sound across the HDMI cable. If you're using a VGA to HDMI converter, you'll get the picture but no sound.

I have a feeling the headset jack on the TV is an output rather than an input. Most TVs accept HDMI, RCA, or a digital audio input (either coaxial or optical). Unless you have a S/PDIF optical output from your laptop (and you obviously don't have an HDMI output), then your only other choice is likely to get a cable that splits a 1/8" headset type connector into two RCA plugs that you'll plug into an AUDIO IN input on your TV.

How can i watch movies from my laptop onto my tv using the hdmi cord.. i dont get picture or sound..

make sure you are using a highspeed HDMI cable to connect the laptop to the TV, then set your TV input to HDMI/digital. Then set your default playback device on the laptop to HDMI to make sure signal goes from the laptop video controller to the TV. hope this helps, feel free to rate how useful the info is to you

I have a toshiba 42HL196. With HDMI cables hooked up, I have no picture when attempting to watch cable TV or use my DVD player. Everything works when I hook up using RCA cables. What is my problem?

By no picture, do you mean that you have sound? If yes then ensure that the tv and the DVD player/cable box is set to the same resolution as that of the tv. That should resolve the problem.

Hdmi to panasonic tv no desktop display only

I can help with getting your desktop onto your TV, but sound from your computer through HDMI can be much trickier.

If you only see a background picture on your TV, then your desktop has been either "extended" or "stretched" onto it. It is essentially a second independent monitor and you can drag applications over to it to see them.

To view your desktop and start menu on your TV, you need to run ati catalyst and "clone" your TV with your computers monitor. Do this by right clicking the picture of the second monitor in the catalyst display manager and choosing "clone". Now your tv and your monitor act as one.

Although i tried 3 different ati cards with hdmi outs that claimed to pump audio through hdmi, none of them worked for my HP PC. You will need a grey widget adaptor between your computer and the hdmi cable. In the end though, there's a conflict between my sound card and ATI's HDMI audio that cannot be resolved. So I run a digital SPDIF signal instead through an rca cable and get 5.1 dolby at my amp that way. Good luck.

No HDMI audio at all.

Could be lots of things, from bad cable, to your laptop no outputting sound, to your tv not functioning properly. A work-around might be to use the VGA output (and sound output) from your laptop until you can resolve it better.

LG 42PX4DV - HDMI Audio / PC Audio IN problem

I found the fix. Had the same problem.
I right clicked on the sound speaker icon in the bottom right of Windows 7.
Chose Playback Devices.
Once this window opens, then make sure you are on the Playback tab.
Scroll down until you see the HDMI Device. (Mine was hidden at the bottom of the list.)
Then choose "set as default".
The sound will begin playing on the TV with only the HDMI connected......no need for an extra audio cable.
