My hp desk jet 4215 is on fax mode and wont print can you tell me how to fix it

When you install an all-in one printer it creates 2 icons under printers and faxes, one is for the printer and one for the fax. With the issue that you're having it could be that what's set to default is the icon for fax, that's why whenever you try to print something it pulls up a screen for fax. Just make sure that you have the printer icon highlighted when you print. To set the printer as the default: Go to your Start button on your computer and go to Printers and Devices (Printers and Faxes for Win XP), if you can't see that on the list, go to Control Panel instead and click on Printers and Devices (Printers and Faxes for Win XP). Right click on the icon of your printer and click on Set as Default Printer. If the icon for your printer is missing, it might have been removed/deleted, in that case, you have to uninstall and reinstall the software.

Will not print defults to fax even though default is set for printer

Delete both the icons(Fax and Printer icon) and also, if there is any copy if installed.

Insert the Printer driver CD or Run the setup file.
Select Add a Device from the Options that come on the welcome screen.

Select it, follow the onscreen options to complete the installation.

Once it is complete, restart the printer. And then try to print. If the issue still persists, restart the computer and then try to print.

Not printing

When printing from the microsoft word document, make sure the printer selected is right. By that, i mean the default printer selected in the printers icon under the control panel should be HP OfficeJet 6100 series and not HP OfficeJet 6100 fax.
So the reason why this message comes up " scanner failure ". is you are either selecting a wrong printer when printing from microsoft word document or probably the printer port is not selected right.

To check the printer port.
Click on start-->control panel-->printer & faxes-->right click on HP OfficeJet 6100 series--> select properties-->Select the top tab called ports-->
Check the ports selected here.
If you have a USB connected printer it should be your printer model with USB settings.
If you have a wireless connected printer it should be your printer model with wireless settings like IP address.

I've just instal a new ink cartirage but each time i press print, microsoft document appears for me to save the document without the printer printing help please

well theproblem for you is that your printer is not selected as default printer and some other printer is set as the default printer
follow these steps please :
1.go to the printers page
2.right click on the printer icon that has the name ending with series and has the name of your printer . on set as default printer
after that
again right click (right) on the same printer icon and select the option -USE PRINTER ONLINE
and then try to print it should fix the problem
cause: since you had the fax of your same printer set as the default so it was printing but to the file .

hope this should be the resolution for your issue

I try to print a document. I go to Print and click OK. Then the send fax menu comes up for no reason and will not let me print.

If you are using Windows XP, click start, click Printers and faxes, you would find your printer listed in that window, make sure that your printer icon is selected as the default printer, this issue occurs when the fax icon is selected as the default one, i.e you would have an icon for the same printer series that starts with 'Fax'. If that icon is selected you would face this issue when you try to print and you get the fax menu.
In Vista
click start, in the search bar type 'control printers' and then press enter, it would open the printers folder for you and check for the same as mentioned above.

When I click the print button, a fax window pops up, and it will only let me fax, and not print

In Windows Xp
Click on start and click on control panel
in control panel look at the top left and switch to classic view(unless your already in it,if ur in it then u'll see a lot of icons and not groups)double click the printers and faxes folder.
now look at the tow icons of your printer and one will say officejet 4300 series and one will say 4300 series fax.
right click the 4300 series and select set as default.
Now click on print if you still get the fax window select your printer icon in the drop down list and then the fax window will not popup.

Click on the start button and in the start search box type "printers" and press the enter button.
In the printers window single left click the printer icon(4300 series, not 4300 series fax)
Then single right click the 4300 series icon and select set as default.
now close the window and try to print if u still get the fax popup then selet your printer icon in the drop down menu and it will print and not fax

C5180 printer

These are the steps for WinXP

For windowsVista after control panel go to Printer or hardware and sounds to go to printers (Then rest same as WinXP)

First check the printer icon. ( Make sure the printer is turned on during this process)
Go to Start> Control Panel (or setup then contro panel) and then go to Printer and faxes (or printers and other hardware)
And check that the printer C5100 Series has a check mark.
If not right click on the same and left click on Set printer as default.
Next make sure the printer icon says 0Ready.
If not right click on top of the C5100 Series icon and left click on Clear all documents (untill it says 0ready)
If it still does not say 0Ready, then restart the computer and check to print any document.

If you do not see the C5100 icon then you may have to install the printer driver ( If is is already installed)
Then unplug the USB cable which is connected to the printer end and leave it unplugged for atleast 1Mins before reconnecting>
After reconnecting it should install the printer diriver on its own>
Go to Start> Control Panel (or setup then contro panel) and then go to Printer and faxes (or printers and other hardware) then C5100Series.if it says 0Ready>Right click on the same icon and left click on Properties>
Now in this window towards the bottom right you will see a tab which says print test page>Click on it to see if it prints a test page.

Printer won't print from computer

Start from the beginning. Check that everything is connected between the computer and printer. Be sure the power is on. In Windows XP, go to the control panel and find "Printers and Faxes". Double click on that. If you don't find your printer in the list of printers and icons, click on the "Add Printers" button on the left column. Follow the steps to install your printer. When you print, make sure the printer is selected. If you have more than one printer icon (and you only have one printer), right-click on the icon for your printer, and find the button that says " Set As Default Printer". Click on that so that the printer is the one that will print your files. You'll see a check-mark next to the icon which indicates that it's the default printer. If you have multiple icons for the same printer, delete the ones that aren't being used.
Once your printer is set up properly, try printing something to be sure it works.
If it doesn't and you can't figure out what's wrong, you may have a faulty cable. Try another one.
When you go to print you file, click on "File", then "Print". Then you can see which printer is going to be used. If your printer isn't shown in the box at the top, click on the scroll box and see if your printer is there. Click on it if you see it in there. If you simply click on the printer icon on the tool bar, you won't know which printer has been selected. Use the "File" and "Print" commands instead to gain access to more information about your printer selection, paper type, preferences, etc. Good luck!

Microsoft Windows XP Click Start and then click Printers and Faxes to open the Printers folder. Locate and double-click the Printer icon (not the fax icon if one is present) for the HP All-in-One. A window opens with a list of print tasks currently assigned to the printer. Highlight the first document in the list and click Printer . If Pause Printing or Use Printer Offline are checked, click to remove the check mark. If the page does not print, click Document and then click Restart . Microsoft Windows 98, Me, and 2000 Click Start , click Settings , and then click Printers to open the Printers folder.
