Check.......removable tabs removed, cartridges installed [they Click when pushed down]. Did you get a Clear test pattern? If all the above have been done and you still have a problem, it's time to call Epson tech support

Put in new ink cartridge and every other line is 1/2 readable?

Epson's software will let you clean your print head. Inkjets have a problem with drying out and clogging. Access your Epson monitor software and clean the print head.

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1800 printer. Though I have checked and cleaned the heads there is always a faded light line about a half inch wide on each 8x10 print. I am new to printing and did not...

Try running a clean/alignment on your printer. There should be a utility program bundled with the software that will perform this function. Chances are the line is there due to one of the print heads being out of alignment.

Epson stylus C86 will not print clearly in black

No doubt this is the result of some clogged print nozzles in the print head.

I have a C86 myself, and have ignored it for about 3 years. There were full cartridges in it, and now they are full of sludge instead of inks. The print head itself is probably full of solid ink (dyes, actually) too.

I love this inexpensive, easy-to-use printer. It is quick, quiet and inexpensive to run, and I have no desire to purchase a replacement.

Go to Ebay, look for the Dr.EpSun Majic Inkjet Flush Store (link should work)and locate the flush for this printer - with shipping about $25 US.

They claim a 100% Money-Back Guarantee if it doesn't work. I'm going to buy a kit myself right now, hope it works - I do miss this printer PLUS it works on MS VISTA with no added drivers!

Epson Stylus C86 - prints faint magenta even though ink levels are in a normal printing range - does not print anything or a barely seen magenta line during nozzle check and heading cleaning

You probably have a slowly worsening clog building up in the Magenta nozzles. It's also possible that your ink is reaching its end of life which, given the age of the C86 is entirely possible, especially if you are refilling or using a CIS sytem with your printer.

If it's a clog issue you can try soaking the parking pad with a mildly ammoniated cleaning solution (original Ammonia windex is good for this) or even distilled water. Leaving this with the printhead parked above it allows the solution to wick up into the nozzles and break down any clogs in the printhead.

If the problem is ink age though you will probably want to carry out the solution above AND replace your ink with a fresh solution. A CIS will need a thorough flush to remove any algae and cloggation residues before you use it again or you will just reintroduce the problem.

Hope that helps.

Bought a used c86 epson off e-bay and it wont

that means that the heads must be replaced or the ink pump is faulty. It is not even worth the repair.
Call the Ebay seller and have your money refunded.

I just bought new ink and nothing prints clearly

If it hasn't printed anything for a couple of years then the print heads will be severely clogged with dried ink. Epson recommends printing a page or two every month to keep the heads clear. You need to try cleaning the print heads, its unlikely that one or two head cleans will clear a badly clogged nozzle. Try doing 4 or 5 head cleans, wait about 10 hours for the ink to soften and do another 3 or 4 cleans with a nozzle check after each. You should see a gradual improvement in the nozzle checks. If there is no improvement then you need a head cleaning solution such as this one:

Others are available just try googling "inkjet head cleaning".
Note that head cleaning uses between 5 and ten percent of your ink cart's, if any are low on ink, have some new ones ready.
If you need to know how to do head cleans & nozzle checks, the user guide can be downloaded from Epson here:

Hope this helps.
Please take a moment to rate this solution, thanks.

Printer doesn't print

Check this FixYa thread:

You need to see if the waste pad is full. This could be your problem.
