You have a frost free refrigerator. Three components of this feature are the control, a heater, and a bimetal thermostat. Failure of any component would give you the condition you have now. There are two methods to initiate a forced defrost mode depending whether the unit was produced before or after June 2003. If after that date, cycling the cold control fully off and on three times in six seconds and leaving it in the on position is your method. This should turn off the compressor and fans, then energize the heater. If you hear a sizzling sound from the bottom of your freezer compartment after 5 or 10 minutes, then your control is bad. If after attempting a forced defrost, the fans and compressor come right back on, then you'll find your bimetal thermostat or heater is bad. Prior to June 2003 involves jumping board contacts, and I would refer this to a qualified service technician.

sounds like the evaporator fan in the freezer is not moving the air. also there is an air damper door at the top center of the fridge that controls air flow from the freezer to the fridge. check those two components and you will find your problem.

Listen for a fan running when you open the freezer door. May have to hold the light switch closed for it to come on. If you don't hear it then the fan is most likely bad. The evavorator fan motor is the most common repair on the trio's

Your timer for the automatic defrost is defective. Replace it. If you thawed out the back of the freezer, this could be good for 3-7 days and it will freeze up again. I had the same trouble.

This is a pretty common problem. Sometimes the defrost cycle is not long enough because the freezer setting were too low. But most times this begins slowly until the drain finally closes and then the water has no where to go but the inside of freezer or refrigerator. I have more help topics to prevent a constantly happening over and over again. But you may have a blockage down-line from the freezer. So until you can melt the ice and pour a warm solution of water and clorox in the drain and it end up in the pan below the refrigerator I will hold off on that until I hear back from you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

I really believe your adaptive defrost located inside the fresh food compartment and inside the control panel is defective. It puts your refrigerator on a timely defrost and if defective this problem you listed in your post happens. Yes we may need to also check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat but with my experience with that type of Adaptive Defrost Control is famous for its failure.
ADAPTIVE DEFROST CONTROL Part Number 61005988 You can find it located on two of my websites. Some models like yours came with a Defrost Timer. We will need just look inside the control panel and see for sure. Here is a photo of the Adaptive defrost. If you should need to contact me please send an email or try to answer here. Problem is I don't get notifications when someone comments. [email protected]
Please rate and ask me as much as you like. Thank You, Sea Breeze
