Question about EliteGroup P4VMM2 V8.1 Motherboard

Video card update compatability

I have a P4VMM2 motherboard w/ VIA ProSavageDDRP4M226 chip set. I currently have a S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR video card. The motherboard has 32 bit PCI slots and a AGP4X slot. Will this board support a GeForce 9400GT 512MB PCI-Express video card. If not, what would be a good video upgrade for this motherboard setup.

Dear Sir, Gigabyte 8VM533M-RZ Motherboard shows 640x480. I can not set to 800x600 or above and permit for limited job. Is there any solution? Please help me. -----Harun

Hello sir,
From the motherboard brand you have, below are the technical specifications: Chipset: VIA ProSavageDDR P4M266A Graphics: ProSavage8 Graphics engine.
The reason you cannot set the screen resolution in Windows XP above 800*600 is because you do not have the appropriate drivers installed for your machine, i.e for the VIA ProSavage8 Graphics card. To solve this problem, you need to download and install the necessary drivers. You can download them from the link below: http://ranger.s3graphics.com/swlib/
Just accept the license agreement and browse through the FTP folders for the S3 ProSavage8 graphics driver(Alt. called ProSavageDDR).
Hope this solves your problem.

My p4vmm2 rev.8.1 has only 256mb memory card and 128mb video card, my question is what would be the maximum bytes for memory card and video card can i install. Offcourse the compatible hardware..tnx

Looks like the max is 2 x 184-pin DDR DIMM socket support up to 1 GB, which means you can get 2 512MB DDR266/200 2.5V DDR SDRAM chips.

as far as video cards, it will accept any AGP 4x or lower card. You could also put a PCI video card in it, but AGP is better.

Upgrading VIDEO CARD

If your motherboard's graphics slot is AGP and your graphics card is AGP then it should be fine if your motherboard is PCI-E and graphics is PCI-E it also is fine make sure your motherboard and graphics are compatible.
