Question about Kenmore 98702 Stacked Washer/Dryer

1 Answer

Kenmore Stacked Washer / Dryer Model Number 417.97802792

Dryer has a repeating squeak.  Sounds like a squeaky belt, bearing?
Before calling the repair service, is this something easy to fix, i.e new belt or a little oil?  Also how do I access the belts?
Thanks in advance

    This is a stacked washer/dryer and the dryer drum won't rotate due to worn out bearings.

    I just completed fixing the squeak on my Kenmore stack unit. It's the bearing for the
    Dryer Tumbler. It's a very simple bearing - it's a "ball in socket" type. It took about 2 hours.
    You'll need bearing grease or what I use, an arosol can of white lithium, Philips screw driver, and a #2 square drive.
    * unplug or turn off electrical breaker
    * remove the front control panel (4 screws on bottom)
    * remove top of dryer
    * remove front of dryer
    * remove the rear louvered panel
    * remove the belt from the 2 small pulleys - the white pulley moves to the left
    * inside the tumbler of the dryer, remove the 3 center screws and remove the tumbler from the * dryer - the plate that held the tumbler has the bearing on it's back side
    * I had lint all over inside my dryer and vacuumed it out
    * liberally apply grease to the bearing
    * re-install tumbler
    * re-attach belt
    * re-assemble remaining pieces
    * plug in and test
    good luck!

Whirlpool model 110.88752792 dryer runs but does not heat

Concerning the Kenmore 11088752792 model where the dryer spins but does not heat. I had that problem a few years ago with the same model.

I replaced the fuse (part No. 3399849 about $10.00) and the thermostat (part no 3398128 about $25.00). Dryer worked fine the first try.

FYI. Today, I'm searching for what makes the dryer squeak when I came across your issue (though 6 months since you posted, but I figure there are other Kenmore stack-able owners out there searching for a fix). I haven't taken the dryer apart yet but have ordered the dryer belt, rollers, pulley (a package deal with RepairClinic) and the felt bearing/seal. May as well do a full replacement of the likely components that are causing the squeaks and not spend any more time going through trial and error repairs.

If you haven't already, the dogs on your agitator are probably due for replacement as well. RepairClinic has an agitator package deal with replacement dogs and seals.

What causes squeaking in washers

Belt might need changing or loose. Either way, sounds like a belt problem. Bearings can need be change as well.

My dryer makes a squeaky sound during adrying

the front guides around the drum or the bearing at the back may be failing partially or bearings in the motor may have started to noise,there is also the chance that the belt idle pulleys have started to wear,more than lightly it is the belt idle pulleys that have dried up or the bushings have started to wear

Squeaky dryer

Pulley needs replaced, all the grease has left the bearing inside from heat and wear. WD-40 evaporates.

Squeaky dryer

Depends how technical you are. More than likely it is the rollers (depending on who made the Kenmore). Go to and you can get the parts there. Or if you are unsure about taking it all apart, call for service.

Dryer squeaks and is staining clothes with rust. is it the bearing needs replacing?

yeah it sounds like the bearings are shot. dryers run at high temps. that takes a toll on the parts. check the belt also it might need replacing too. my dryer has guide pins that the barrel rolls on. one of those broke. its not fun going to the laundrymat.

Dryer makes a loud squeaking/squealing noise while drying.

If the dryer model number begins with 417, the drum is supported by a ball bearing in back, and a seal and glides up front. Often, the bearing will become very dry, either from years of use, or from excessive lint blowing up into the bearing. If the bearing isn't cracked or otherwise noticeably bad, you can usually solve the issue simply by lubing the bearing with a high temp grease. While the machine is apart...(a major pain in the butt), make sure to check the condition of the seal and glides on the front panel, and replace the belt if it looks at all cracked or frayed.
If this dryer is not a 417 and/or does not have a rear bearing, it's best to get a maintainance kit (belt, idler pulley and drum rollers) and install all the aforementioned parts, as they are the most likely source of screech. Also, check the motor by spinning the shaft manually with the belt off....if that is squeeking, it's motor
