I think I have a virus or something preventing my computer from connecting to any site or link with Microsoft. I need to update service paks and was able to download them from cnet but cannot run the...

Dear Sir
This is indeed a virus program specifically written to block the browsing to certain sites.

I would like to mention here that any online transaction, made on other than direct bank sites are not advisable as the system files are infected.
Please see the address bar when you type the URL of your bank site, you will be able to see "https://www.banksite.com " rather than " http://www.banksite.com". Please make sure that you access your bank site if you see https in the beginning of the site rather than http. You should also check verisign symbol and lock symbol prior to proceeding any money related transaction. Above checks will ensure you that your transactions are safe.

Now we can discuss the virus problem.
Restart the computer and press F2/F8 to boot in to the safe made. Login as administrator with the passsword which you should be knowing. If you have left your password filed blank. Please change the password by
clicking: start> control panel> user account> administrator> create new password:
enter the desired password twice as asked and save and exit. Make sure that your administrator account should have some password.
Connect to the internet. Download Mozilla web browser-- Firefox Setup3.6.12 free from below link:: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html
Open the location where you have saved the executable file named Firefox Setup3.6.12 Install it by double clicking on the file and it will create a desktop short cut. alternatively you can open it by clicking start>all programs>Mozilla Firefox > Mozilla Firefox
Now type http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ in to the address bar of the Mozilla Browser. Download the microsoft security essential and install it.
You will see the Microsoft Security Essential symbol in the tray of your system (Bottom right side of the screen a small hut ), Now Double click on it and select "update" tab
Now click on " Update" Button and let the Microsoft Security Essential update the virus database. After update, Select to the "Home" tab on the Microsoft Security Essential Main window, at the right side of the window, select " full " as a "scan option" and click on scan now.
The Microsoft Security Essential not only scan the system but also report and replace the infected system files which have gone bad due to viruses. In your case, IE browser setting are now altered by the virus and hence you are not able to access the Microsoft Sites . By doing above steps, you will create an alternate internet channel through Mozilla Browser and whose settings are at default.
I hope by doing this, it is possible to recover the settings without much efforts. After full system scan and fixing of the bugs, restart the computer and login normal way. To update the service pack do the following:
Connect to the internet click start>control panel>Windows update> and select update now
you will be able to update the OS.

Please tell if you need further support
Regards.

When I turn on my acer aspire 6530G laptop after it displays all the icons on the screen the message "Locking your computer" immediately follows then it would go back to the screen that asks you to log-in...

One tip: Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del (if one hit not work try two hits). Enter your user name and password. (no need to enter the password if you don't have one. Just hit enter). If you wasn't using the built in Administrator account (and if its not password protected type in Administrator and hit enter). Scan the PC for Viruses. And check whether there is a problem with the security log if logging enabled. (Start -> Run -> Type in Eventvwr.msc and hit Enter key and go to "Applications" and "System" and check for errors)

Ex boyfriend reset login password. cannot get

Hi,

Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt and hit the del key twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".

Please post back if need anymore advice or this does not work.

Good luck.

Turn computer on the user login screen comes up... enter password and then a blank screen.

Have you removed any virus's or spyware? Windows is either getting stuck on a corrupted driver/loader or a file was deleted. Some virus's do this. If you have a windows disk, run setup from the disk and you will be given the option to repair windows before installing. Select this and when prompted, select startup repair. If this does not work boot to safe mode with networking and try running system restore. If you have system restore enabled and it shows up unavailable or no restore points set, you might have a virus. Forget the free virus/spam removal downlads, they WILL NOT WORK!!! Go to onecare.live.com and use their full scan. It is completely free, runs online, and provided by Microsoft, not some knock-off company. It is the ONLY free removal tool that hes ever worked for me, and I have tried literally every one I have ever found on Google.

My notebook is completely blank. No response.

Try reseating the memory in your laptop. If this doesn't work then take out the battery and only hook up your AC adaptor to turn on the laptop. If neither of these work then your motherboard is bad.

I have a virus and stmanteec antivirus notification keeps popping up on my screen: What can I do??? Help Scan type: Auto-Protect Scan Event: Threat Found! Threat: Trojan.Zlob File: ...

If you have a virus you can not delete or if your system will not boot up correctly and you suspect a virus is the problem, a recommended solution is to start your computer in safe mode and run a virus scan. By running your computer in safe mode, non-essential processes do not start and non-core components are disabled. In other words, only the minimum necessary programs will load. Tough to remove viruses, spyware and other malware usually have no chance to run and disrupt your system and can more easily be removed.
**To run a virus scan in safe mode, you must have active anti virus software installed on your computer.
To run a virus scan in safe mode, follow these steps:
  1. If your computer is on, shut it down
  2. Power on your computer
  3. Immediately after you power on your computer, repeatedly press the [F8] key (about once per second)
  4. In the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen, use the arrows to select Safe Mode and presss [Enter]
  5. Select your current operating system and press [Enter]
  6. Select the user you would like to login under (if applicable)
  7. When your system finishes booting, click the Start button on your task bar
  8. Move your cursor over All Programs and navigate to your anti virus program
  9. Click on your antiv virus program to run it and follow the anti virus program’s normal steps to run a virus scan
  10. After the virus scan is complete, Delete all detected viruses
  11. Close out of your anti virus software
  12. Restart your computer (it should start in normal mode)
