Lines on copies

Lines and smears keep appearing on each copy. I replaced the cartridge toner, but they are still there. I even cleaned the roller on the cartridge holder. Looks very unprofessional

Re: Lines on copies

Sounds like a fuser assembly to me....not dirty, but worn out. If the teflon roller gets scratched or starts to disintegrate you will get lines, black marks on the page and even horizontal globs of toner. When it really gets bad, you will get paper jams. When you pull the paper jam out of the printer and it has toner on the paper, but it smears....means a bad fuser assembly.

Re: Lines on copies

There is no model number or brand mentioned, but it may need a new drum kit. Also, sometimes the fuzer module is dirty.

The ink is smearing on to the copy. The text keeps on reappearing on the page.

It sounds like either your drum needs to be replaced (needs to be done every 5 or 6 toner cartridges), or you have a bad fuser (depends on what you mean by smearing).

When an image reappears further down the page (not as dark or bold) it usually means that the current in the drum is not correct, or the coating on the drum is worn. Take the cartridge assembly out and separate the drum from the cartridge. DO NOT TOUCH THE DRUM ROLLER. Look at it and see if there are streaks, color differences, or toner on the drum roller. The roller should be solid purple or green with no marks, lines, toner, or smudges on it. If it does, the drum is a replaceable part and you can get one anywhere that sells toner cartridges. They are even available in remanufactured brands.

However, if there is loose toner on the paper (wipe your hand over it and it comes off), then your fuser is bad and needs to be replaced. Another problem with the fuser you can check is whether there is toner being adhered to the fuser rollers, which could cause smearing and images to reappear on the page. To check this, open the rear cover of the printer. Inside you will see two rollers: usually an orange one on top of a black one. Be careful; the fuser can heat up to almost 400 degrees, so let it cool if you were just using it. Check to see if there is any toner on these rollers; if working properly, they should be spotless. If there is toner visible on either roller, then you may need to replace the fuser.

It is a 75% chance of your drum being the cause, which would be the problem to hope for. If your fuser is bad, in all honesty it may not be worth fixing; it can cost you up to $150.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

Black lines on copies and on drum

There are a few things you can do to troubleshoot this problem.
  1. Be sure you are using new, clean paper
  2. Clean the copier's paper rollers, the marks may result from a dirty roller mechanism.
  3. Clean the copier bed's glass plate, smudges manifest themselves in the final copies.
  4. Clear any excess toner that has spilled in the toner cartridge chamber. Remove the cartridge, set it aside, then clean the compartment.
  5. Check for low toner levels. Low toner levels can actually contribute to unsightly lines and blotches on a photocopy
If all else fails, try turning down the darkness of the copies in the settings, this can occasionally lead to lines and marks.

I can not get my copier to work at all it just leaves a j 3 message. When it was working black lines were being left over every copy page

where the black line being left when after the drum or before the fuser THe hot part. make a copy and stop the machine so the paper is in the middle catch it before it goes into the hot part are the lines there? be careful the toner will not be fuse your hand will smear the toner, if the lines are there you need to replace the cleaning blade and maybe the drum and get the image unit that houses the drum might need to be cleaned.

if no lines then the fuser is putting the lines on the copy replace the upper and lower fuser rollers and cleaning roller next to the lower fuser roller.

Sharp AL 1655CS Grayscale Copier prints with black lines

Lines on copies can come from the optict area, charge grid and comb or the fusing roller. Stop the copy halfway through the cycle and see where the line starts to appear. If you see it as much as you do the rest of the print, it is either optical or in the drum charge unit.

Vertical line on copies

A vertical line on laser copiers which are the same lenght apart on each indicates a dirty or defective toner cartridge or dirty or defective rollers. Take the cartridge out and wipe the rollers with a soft cloth. If the streaks continue then the rollers inside the cartridge or damaged. You will need to replace the toner cartridge. My copier smears the middle portion of printed documents.

Cleaning the roller (drum) may have made things worse. You will need a new toner cartridge. However you should try and get a replacement from your supplier if the cartridge is not too old

I have a Ricoh Aficio 2018 PhotoCopier. Recently it ran out of toner. I reinserted the old cartridge which I had re-filled with toner (ricoh). However the off-side (non-copy side) of the sheets are dirty -...

You probably have a toner spill which has gone under the transfer roller. Open the right side of the machine and you will see a dark colored roller on the inside of the open part. Stydy it very carefully and you will see how to remove the roller including it's holder. be carefull of the springs, they love to escape. also watch as to how the bushings and gears are assembled so you get them back on properly. Clean any toner out from underneath the roller, replace the assembly and run 10 copies of a white piece of paper. this roller runs on the backside of the paper and can cause your problem. Hope this works for you. Check your paper tray as well as toner can migrate down into them.

Dark Smear Won't Go Away

It Sounds like you may have damaged, or in some way stained the Fuser Roller.

The roller is situated on the top of the unit under the smaller opening flap towards the rear. release the blue levers and examine the surface of the orange roller, chances are the roller is marked.

New Fuser units are available from a number of UK sources but are pricey at around £100 (100k copies per unit).

The other possible cause is if you are using a refilled black toner cartridge. Dell toner units don;t like being refilled more than 3-4 Times and often leave a "ghost" mark on the page. try a new dell toner in the unit and see if ithat helps.

"Clean drum" doesn't get rid of smears.

Need to change cartridge, the residue is not being cleaned off by the Drum Blade.
