Set up your ps3, go to turn it on but keep your finger pressed down on the on button for a couple of seconds until you hear it beep twice.
This should reset the input and hopefully solve your problem, if not turn it off and try again this time hold for 5 secs this should do a full reset of the ps3
good luck

My ps3 was recently connected to a hdmi cord at my friends house now im back home nd i plug the av cords in and nothing is coming up its still connected to the hdmi

Hello. Sounds like you need to adjust the video output setting back to component. Go to settings, display settings, then video output setting. you may need to do this under an hdmi connection in order to see it. Once you change it to component then it will switch over to a standard AV connection.

hey, when you used the HDMI cable at your friends place, the PS3 display got set to 1080p. to bring it back to standard definition (red, white, yellow wire), follow these steps.

turn off you TV and PS3

turn on your TV

With your PS3 turned off, press and hold the Power button on the front of the PS3 for about 10 seconds (the system will beep as normal as it starts up but after 7-10 seconds it will beep again). The video settings should now be reverted. Doing this will also reset any theme settings.

Now you should be able to see your PS3 menu on the TV.

Happy to help :)

I have a HDMI problem with my PS3. I have it

You will need to turn on the PS3 and hook it up with rca so you can access the console menus. Turn it on and get to the main dashboard. 1. Go to Settings -> Display Settings (not video) 2. Select [ Video Output Settings ] 3. Select HDMI 4. Select Resolution 5. Select Screen Size 6. Save the settings 7. Reboot the console. This should resolve the problem. We've seen PS3 consoles that would not reset by performing a hard reset. We were able to resolve this issue through the settings menu though. Let me know if it is still giving you issues.Hank GATpro Repairs

Try entering Recovery Mode and choose "Restore Default Settings".

If that doesn't help, you may have an HDMI port failure - which will require returning the unit to Sony or sending it to a third-party PS3 repair shop.

You must go back to the origional place you used the HDMI last, and do all the setting up & hook up again, to get a picture, THEN set it to component, or AV, and THEN turn off shut down, Now it will work at the other place OK.

HDMI cable vs non

With your PS3 turned off, press and hold the Power button on the front of the PS3 for about 10 seconds (the system will beep as normal as it starts up but after 7-10 seconds it will beep again). The video settings should now be reverted. Doing this will also reset any theme settings.
I use this method to revert from HDMI 1080p to Composite 576p, without having to swap cables and change settings.

I can not get ps3 to show on TV. It turns on, green light in front with blue light with disk in.

you might have it stuck on a different video output e.g HDMI or AV. i had the same problem when i took my ps3 to a friends house mine was stuck on HDMI from my tv and i put it on my friend's tv on AV and it didnt show up i thought my ps3 was broke but when i got it home i realised you have to change it from HDMI to AV through settings on the XMB on display settings. hope this helps

This Sucks!!!!

Try this. Shut your PS3 off to stand by mode (when the red light is just on). Hold the power button down for a few seconds (the button on the front, not the back). This will reset the PS3 display settings back to default (480i in North America or 480p in Europe). Then go to the menu (XMB) to "Display Settings" and select your HDMI settings from there. This should do it.

Hello can you help with this error!

When you switch from one cable connection to another (Hdmi to AV etc) you need to reset the PS3 to its default settings. Basically what is happening is, your PS3 is set to HDMI, so when you plug in AV cables it doesn't know it. So you have to reset it. Hook your PS3 up to whatever cables (make sure system is fully off) then hold the front power button down for a few seconds.

Doing this will reset the display settings. You can then go into the XMB (main menu) and choose your connection. Although the PS3 should do this during the start up on its own.

Hope this helps.

Hi I recently played my ps3 on my friends tv using an hdmi lead and all was fine. Now i have returned home and tried to play my ps3 without the hdmi lead and it wont work can you help please.

go back to your friends with your ps3 and change the tv settings on the ps3 back to scart output but also take your scart lead and have it plugged in at the same time. once you have selected scart output unplug the hdmi cable to make sure the settings are right. hope this helps you.
