Question about Olympus DS-4000 Digital Voice Recorder

1 Answer

DSS 7.3.0 transcriber foot pedal treated as no there any more.

Ran Registry Easy on a cluttered XP to tidy it up. Printer and Olympus foot pedal became non-existent apparently.
Printer solved by following suggestion (My computer/manage/Services & Applications/Services/Printer spooler .. changed to automatic from being disabled)
I can't find a solution for the 'missing' foot pedal. The software on the pc screen runs the audio files just fine - lets them stop, start, fast forward and fast reverse ok. But the foot pedal does not do anything- no response at all. It does not seem to be connected, although it is still in the same USB port as before.
Any pointers much appreciated.

Yes, did the job nicely - transcriber now normally interactive. Two queries I'm asking myself - 1) will that undo the tidy up I did with the Easy Registry repair app?, and 2) if I could find a way to place the DSS7 playback program alongside the word doc into which I am dictating - side by side on the screen then maybe I wouldn't need the foot pedal at all. Anyway, thank you for very quickly and efficiently getting me back into business. Regds, arxione.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

No, there is no way to change the record format to dss classic. However, with the pro software, you can set it to automatically convert to dss upon download.

Foot pedal

Make sure you are installing the Transcription version of the software not the Dictation version (Transcription version serial number starts with RTM and dictation starts with RDM). The foot pedal will not work with the dictation version of the software.

Foot switch will not respond.

The answer is all in the serial number you use to install the DSS player!

Look carefully and you will see the recorder disk has in my case an [E] printed above the install serial number and the transcription pedal has [T]

Install the same disk with the E the driver is there, the control in Control Panel is there, but the foot switch does not work with the software. Put in the serial number with the [T] and foot switch works first time!

If you uninstall the play and then reinstall with the [T] serial number you do not need to reboot or even unplug the foot switch from the USB.

INACCURATE FILE WAS SPECIFIED Erro

You might have found out by now, this is happing because of the Windows updates back in November. An update is preventing the audio files from launching with the DSS Player. I found out that you can open the audio file by right-clicking the file and selecting open. Later releases of the Olympus software will not experience this issue.
