Question about Whirlpool GD5SHAX Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I emptied my ice storage container to fix problem. When I put it back in, the ice maker didn't work. I don't have a metal bar on top of the ice maker. I did this once before & found the answer in my manual - now I can't find my manual.

Hi just bought a Samsung RSG5PUBP fridge freezer it is all plumbed in and the water function works but the ice maker does not. So far it has been on for 24hours. Any ideas???

Hello,

Most ice makers require you to lift the metal arm up, for it to activate! Not in a straight (horizontal) position! But level (vertical) with ice container. Like resting on top of container, but not touching.

If this isn't the case, than you really need to check the water line going to the ice maker in the back of the refrigerator...check all connections, and trace the water line all the way to sink. You may have a blockage somewhere, or possibly a faulty ice maker?

These are usually, the main troubleshooting tips for ice makers!

Kind Regards!

Have a jennair refrigerator mdl#jfi2589aes took the ice cube storage box out to fill cooler, when i put it back in the ice cube maker will not dispense ice cubes to the storage box, ice maker is making...

Hi

This usually is because the drive on the ice box is not engaged,
1. Remove the ice box and empty it into a bowl
2. Replace the ice box and turn the auger (spiral metal inside) until it locks into the drive motor
3. Ensure the box is pushed back as far as it will go
4. Put ice back into ice box
5 Try dispensing ice again
This is a common problem as there are teeth on the back of the ice box that have to align with the drive motor in the back of the freezer

Hope this helps

Our Whirlpool Refrig GD25DFXFW02 is working fine our problem is the ice maker , the cubes contain white flakes, is there a coating on the ice maker that could be chipping off> We have changed the filter...

The inside coating has come off the inside of the ice maker . The white " flakes " is calcium deposits , sticking to the exposed cast metal , inside the ice maker , and sticking to the cubes , after water freezing in the mold . You need to replace the ice maker .

Sub zero particles in ice from ice maker

This issue occurs if your Ice Maker is not clean or have dust particals inside, follow the below steps in order to clean it properly:

Step 1 Lift the power bar located above the ice maker storage tray.
  • Step 2 Unplug the refrigerator.
  • Step 3 Allow the refrigerator and freezer to defrost. This will melt any large blocks of ice that have accumulated in the ice maker.
    Clean the Ice Machine
  • Step 1 Remove the ice machine storage tray.
  • Step 2 Dump any water in the ice machine storage tray.
  • Step 3 Wash the ice machine storage tray using warm, soapy water. Rinse and allow to dry completely.
  • Step 4 Sanitize the lines of the ice maker. Consult your manufacturer's directions for steps to do this, because it's not available on all models.
    Reassemble the Ice Maker
  • Step 1 Replace the ice machine storage tray.
  • Step 2 Plug the refrigerator into the outlet to restore power.
  • Step 3 Lower the internal power bar located just above the ice machine storage tray. This allows the ice machine to make new ice.

    Icemaker

Check to see if the little metal bar on top of the icemaker got flipped up or jammed when you put the ice container back in. This turns the ice machine off. This happed with my dad just the other day. I know it is simple, but he knew about this, and it still didn't dawn on him to check it. Just a thought!

Ice Maker Won't Stop Making Ice

There is an adjustment for the "harvest" bar (The bar you lifted up). That bar you are lifting up tells the ice-maker that the cubes have fallen into the ice storage and starts the ice-making cycle over. It is also the Limit switch for the ice level in the storage container ... if it stays up for preset time determined by the manufacturer it stops making ice... most all ice-machines use the same devices. they vary little in design. Sometimes you can just gently bend the bar down to the point where it turns-off the machine at the level you want ... unless you can get to the adjustment hinge you can adust it there. For the fact it goes off when you lift it all the way up tells me the harvest switch is turning the ice-maker off.
