Question about Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 3.00GHz 6MB Cache 1333MHz FSB Dual Core Processor (BX80570E8400A)

1 Answer

My E8400 CPU is only showing one core instead of two

My CPU is only showing one core instead of two. I've had this system for a year and recently noticed that Task Manager was only showing one core. I used 3 other utilities to see if they showed one or two cores - all show only one:
CPU-Z
Process Explorer v 11.33
Ashampoo Core Tuner

I ran the Intel Processer Identifier utility and it reports two cores, but it doesn't give any process/load info so I assume it's just picking up the E8400 ID and reporting two cores.

Will an asus p5gd1-fm motherboard support an intel e8400 core 2 duo 3.00ghz cpu?

No, that motherboard is 915P socket, and the E8400 is Socket LGA775, you will need a new motherboard to use that CPU.

E8400 or Q6600

personally i have the q6600 which is a quad core processor, all the others you listed were dual core, personally i use alot of programs all at once which is good if you have a quad core, but just for general music, data, and streaming, the e8400 is probably better for you, its a 3ghz processor.

Upgrading the cpu and heat sink and fan

Hi,
All the factory fitted CPUs are having such heat sinks as previously u were having.
Check on the backside there will be small plastic covers where screws fit these could be removed by screw driver but u can purchase that heat sink or can use previous heatsink as well if it is working.

Defective sony/intel cpu?

Sony tech support, refused 2 show me how 2 reset the multiplier.apparently their firmware has a multiplier of 6x locked in.nowhere in the bios/cmos can it be changed.intel says its suppose to be a 9x multiplier 2 achieve the 1500mhz.why would sony throttle down a 1.5ghz rig to 997mhz?they cpu must be defective & to stop it from blowing up on people they set the multiplier @ 6x.ok fine but don’t advertise it as a 1500mhz rig & make consumers think that’s the speed they’ll b getting.how many other u.s.citizens r unaware that they’ve been swindled/cheated/misled?what about a recall? What about some legal action against them?i’ve spent hours & hours e-mailing them & making phonecalls & they’re intent on acting as if they’ve done nothing wrong.
