Question about Vtech 5.8GHz Analog Cordless Phone
I have a new 5.8 phone and the battery indicator does not show. Is that normal? Does it only flash the three bar symbol when the battery is low? Or should it work like a cell phone's indicator constantly showing one to three bars indicating battery charge status?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: Low battery
You need to buy new batteries for your phones. Large retailers charge $10-12 per battery but you can usually find them for closer to $4 online at amazon.com or eBay.

SOURCE: My V-tech 6896 has no
Just solved the same problem, however, my situation may be different. I have 2 sets of Vtech 6896, i.e. 2 base stations and 8 handsets. One set was fine and the other set had all 4 handsets showing 'connecting'. I unplugged the power of the working set to avoid any interference, and tried reset, power cycle, register/deregister the non-working set following the manual but no luck. Finally, I powered down the non-working base station, unplugged all batteries in the working handset, and powered up the working base station. All of a sudden, all 4 non-working handsets showed Handset 1-4. At this time, I powered up the non-working base station and one working handset. The handset showed 'Not Registered'. I followed the step to register it and it came up fine - 'Handset 1'. I then repeated the steps for the other 3, now all 4 are up.
My conclusion - when the handset says 'connecting', that means it can't communicate with the base therefore, you can't really deregister it. The base is trying to find the handset that it remembered but can't find them so the base can't register them either. You'll have to find a way to make them forget their past, in my case, use a different base; or as others to power down the base for a long time. The power down base didn't work for me. So, it's still not an easy problem to solve but don't change the batteries. There is nothing wrong with them.

I went online and downloaded the manual for this produst and followed all the trouble shooting procedures until one of them was successful. I didn't download the entire manual but selected various pages listed in the index and printed what I needed. Accessing the appropriate manual was an easy process because of the manner in which they were identified on the vtech website.

SOURCE: I just bought a vtech
I also have the same issue. After reading through the manual, it seems like the only thing you can do is turn the display off. Still trying to figure out how to make it display.

SOURCE: Reading through my User's manual
The volume is too low (person who loaned me this VTech 5.8 mhz, Model CS5111 did not have the manual to go with it). Unable to determine if phone volume is adjustable.
