Question about Denon DVD-800 DVD Player

DVD player freezing

Hi, my Panasonic 5 yr old DVD player recently started "freezing" at 34 mins and then would "stutter" through rest of disc. Couldn't fast forward through it. Tried 6 different discs (all good quality) - same problem. Took it to a TV/stereo type repairer and played all way through OK for him using few different discs! Took it home - same problem. Have just bought brand new Sony DVD player & exactly the same thing happens. I noticed on the Sony scanner, that the disc seems to jump chunks of time (eg 10 seconds in one jump). Also, tried using a different TV in a different room - still happens. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Jennifer

    Hi Voodoo

thanks for your response, however it seems that this can't be the problem given that the Sony DVD player is brand new - I only took it out of the box yesterday - I can't imagine it would be dirty already. Also, as per my initial query, I did have a professional look at my 5 yr old Panasonic and it worked OK for him. Both players have the identical problem, even when I use different TV's in different rooms. So back to square one I'm afraid.

I need another opinion please. The first expert thinks that the lens may be damaged or it's dirty. However, my Sony is brand new and I only took it out of the box yesterday. I'm having the same problem with it, as I am having with my 5 yr old Panasonic. Both DVD players are freezing at 30-34 minutes and then staggering through rest of disc, and jumping through blocks of time. Have tried the players on different TV's in different rooms. A professional has looked at the Panasonic but it worked perfectly for him using a few different discs.

there is no earthing problem with the power connector. Note that I have tried the DVD players in two different rooms with two different TV's and the same problem occurs. The TV's are viewed regularly in both rooms with no sparking or earthing problems.

Not one of the responses I've had from you takes into account that the problem is occurring not only on my 5 yr old Panasonic DVD player, but also the brand new (ie taken out of its box yesterday) SONY DVD Player as well. So how can the lens be damaged on a brand new player?? the voltage for the TV hasn't been a problem with playing DVD's for the past 5 years on the Panasonic, so why would it all of a sudden be a problem now?
Some of the discs I've had problems with are brand new as well, so can't be dirty.

Ok
so there is issue with power supply check your power supply gives proper output and earthing works well.
Also check your dvd player adapter.
If your dvd player working fine in shop then there is not problem with your dvd player.
Also check your lense and clean your lense with lense cleaner disk.

Hi.
Now i would say that the lens and reader have been damaged, and i know you said you took it to someone so it could get fixed but this is a really common thing that is easily overlooked. I know what your thinking, he played many discs and they all worked but the problem happens on all different tvs it could also have something to do with the disc itself.
First. Get a lens cleaning cloth from a pair of sunglasses and (very, very, very,) carefully dab or wipe the lens (the small round piece of glass) and try your hardest not to put any pressure in it.
Second. If that didn't work you can try checking that there isn't a to high of a voltage for the tv to withstand as this is one of the most common problems.
Third. and finally it is possible that it is the disc itself you can try getting some medical alcohols or light Bourbon and wipe the disc if that doesn't work try using toothpaste, by wetting the disc, wiping the toothpaste on it and wetting it again while wiping it off.
for any more help please pm me. =]

I'd suggest You check your earthing and your power plug wether it is sparking. Once you play the disc for 30 minutes just touch the power connector and feel wether it is getting hot. Under such condition You require immediate assistance from an electrical expert who will make your earthing proper or else it is a danger to all your electronic equipments.
Kindly let me know of the results. Mahendra.

Hi jlane,

thank you for using fixya.

with how you described it, the most common or related part that is in fault is the lens mechanism. when you open any DVD /CD player, you should be able to see the lens and its assembly. the assembly moves from the center of the disc going outwards as it plays. now usually, if a disc jumps or does not continue playing, there is a possibility that the lens can no longer move farther away from the center. this is usually caused by a damage in the plastic gears that moves the lens or a piece of dirt hindering the lens to move through its railing.

this can be resolved but may need careful hands, have a professional look at it and at least at this stand point, you now have an idea on what the issue is. does preventing you from getting ripped off.

hope this helps.

regards,

voodoo

Pinnacle S 10.7 DVD plays for for 15 min plus and then image free

Unfortunately I do not know what a prosumer is (do you mean producer?) but what I would do is produce an image file rather than write direct to disc and then use nero or imgburn to burn the disc.(I prefer Imgburn and not just because it is a free open source prog).

Give it a go and get back if the problem remains.

DVD plays well until it stutters midway thru and

If it only happens with one disc, try using a Disc Doctor/Skip Doctor on it. These instruments will repair scratches and depending on the disc, repair pinholes in the disc. Usually it's just polishing the surface of the disc. Some instruments totally resurface the disc by stripping off a thin layer of the disc to remove scratches and other damage. (Used game/music stores will do this).

My LG RH 177 has started to 'freeze' when playing a DVD, after about 15 mins play normally. It is about 18 months old. I have cleaned the disc & the head but no improvement.

If you can get the cover off of it have a look and see if the fan or fans are working properly...if not working it can cause the dvd player to over heat and freeze.......Hope this helps

Dvd-r problems

Unplug your AC power cord for a minimum of 30 seconds to clear the RAM. The RAM is used solely for dvd class history, and clearing this should solve your issue. If you want to convert your player to region free, which will allow you to play ANY dvd: 1 Disconnect your player from its power source for thirty seconds 2) Reconnect your player to its power source 3) Press the Power On button on your remote control 4) Press the Enter button on your remote control 5) Press the 8 button on your remote control 6 Press the 4 button on your remote control 7) Press the 2 button on your remote control 8) Press the 6 button on your remote control 9) Press the 9 button on your remote control 10)Press the Enter button on your remote control 11)Your player should now place itself in Standby mode 12)Press the Power On button on your remote control A word of caution if your convert your player is that disc eject issues may arise in which you will have to eject from the unit, or toggle your power switch on/off.....good luck my friend.
