Question about Washing Machines

Bleach is spilling directly on to clothes

I have a Whirpool front loader and sometimes when I add the bleach, it drains directly into the tub and on to the clothes. The bleach is supposed to be added during the rinse cycle. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have made sure that the dispenser is in its proper place but sometimes that doesn't matter. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

Re: Bleach is spilling directly on to clothes

I have the same problem and here is the reason and the solution. When you add bleach it sits in the dispenser until the rinse cycle. During the rinse cycle the machine pours a lot of water through the dispenser. The bleach is diluted and washed out with all this water into the tumbler and you clothes are rinsed with bleach. Sometimes when this rinse happens, the water does not completely drain from the bleach dispense. It sits in there. If this happens, the next time you add bleach, there is too much liquid in the dispenser and it leaks out onto your clothes.
Solution: Before you add bleach, take the whole dispenser out and see if there is a lot of water still standing in the bleach dispenser section. If there is a lot of water, spill it out into a sink. Then fill the dispenser with your bleach and it will all work out the way it should. I was having your same problem until I discovered this. I have never had the problem since.

Bleach is eating holes in my clothes. With top loaders, the bleach is mixed in with water before clothes are added.. seems that with front loaders the bleach is just being deposited directly onto clothes?

Add your bleach with less potency but make sure you are putting it where it is suppose to go and when you are supose to add it , it makes a difference.

I just need someone to explain to me if I should add clorox bleach. and clorox ll in the same area, but not at the same time. I don't understand if you should add them into the same area it seems as...

When you add bleach to the beach dispenser, it goes directly into the water in the outer tub, where it dilutes, before coming into contact with your clothing. I'm no chemist, but I think the difference between the regular bleach and the "color safe" bleach is either a chemical additive, or just a special dilution.

If it's the latter, mixing the two will add too much chlorine, and "bleach stain" your colors. Follw the directions on the bottles, and also the user guide that came with your machine, if you still have it.

Duet washer is stinky.I leave the tub door and the soap dispenser door open when not in use. Even so, epecially after doing several loads in a row I have a very stinky machine There is mold growing on the...

are you on a well??
do you use bleach in with your whites??
some well water untreated can cause exceptionally stinky machines, especially if no or very little bleach is used during white washing..
usually if you use bleach in with your whites in normal amounts and leave the door open in between uses there should be very little stinky odor or mold growth.
the mold growing on the gasket is a sign of to little bleach or none being used, and/or a really damp environment for the unit to reside in.
they do make several cleaners designed just for stinky front loader washers..
they might help..
i've been using a front loader for 13 years, leave the door ajar between uses, and use bleach in every white load and have had no issues with stinky unless i or someone else doing wash forget and close the door for a couple days, then it gets stinky but goes away after white load with bleach and hot water..
hope this helps,
best of luck,

I can't get the front panel off my HE3 #44836 to clean the filter. The rubber backing crumbled on my bath mats in the washer. I vacuumed out the tub, but where did the rest of the rubber crumbles go? ...

Read the owners manual. Many washers have 'self cleaning' filters that will get clogged with big stuff. The 'moldy odor' is caused by MOLD. Run a 'extra large' empty load of HOT water with normal detergent + 1 PINT of ordinary bleach. Add another shot (pint) of bleach to the rinse cycle. Sometimes a small article (sock?) will escape the clothes basket and get trapped in the tub--it can't get drained out and can't get back into the clothes basket. The bleach will kill the mold, but if it returns you will have to take the top off and fish the lost article out using a bent clothes hanger as a hook.

Washing machine filter for roper top loader

it has a self cleaning filter mounted under the tub. if you want to clean out the tub and filter thoroughly then:
  • run a cycle with no clothes using hot water and a gallon or two of bleach.
  • after the tub has filled up add a teaspoon or less of dish liquid like palmolive. this acts like a surfactant for the bleach.
  • make sure you also run an extra rinse cycle to make sure you have all the bleach out of the machine before putting clothes in.

Hello sa-kap,

yYu said,

Hi, I have a top loading Kenmore Elite washer (don't know model #) from the year 2002. It has the automatic bleach dispenser. The problem is that if someone has washed clothes with bleach sometime during the day and someone else comes along and washes dark clothes, the clothes get ruined with dot bleach stains. It appears that the bleach remains in the washer. Any tips or do I need to buy a new washer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
V.C.My problem is similar to that which VCasabona is having. Not just dots occur but often big splotches. It may not even be just a colored load following whites on the same day but, on occasion, it occurs on the next laundry day, a week later with the first load that is not the whites with bleach. Also, my wife adds the bleach to the filled washer (old school, I guess), rather than pouring into the dispenser. My water pressure, which is not at issue, is not what I need to address to remedy the situation. I have noted that the ledge that is part of the floating tub had some build-up of deposits, some of which may have been bleach. These I've reached in with damp cloths and removed as best I can. I've run full, empty loads through hoping this would flush out any lingering bleach. Because the occurrences run intermittently from infrequently to frequently I cannot be sure if any of my attempts to remedy the problem are having any effect. I've guessed at the model # of the Kenmore top load washer we own since Dec of 1999

Sounds like some water is remaining in the tub after the pump gets done emptying the washer.
So its the pump!
The Kenmore Elite is a good washer and I believe worth fixing!
Unless the cost is half the price of the cost of a replacement.

Bless You,
Please write me a good rating before you sign off.

Reimbursement for ruined clothes

you should never put bleach in the dispenser ,
unless it is colorfast bleach.
always add bleach diluted directly in the drum to prevent this from happening in the future.
the dispenser may never clear the bleach fully.

check is in the mail.
