boot the computer with the xp cd in it. while it is booting up, press F11 or F12 which allows you to choose the boot option. Once you're able to choose that, choose CD-ROM, that will enable you to boot from the CD and you need to do a clean format.

when you boot with them you can easily get in the dos platform (c://prompt)
once there type in fdisk and follow instructions.
you can also do this from usb ..you need to make usb bootable first.

The OS is not booting on your lappy! You will need to recover it either by pressing ALT + F10 on your Acer however this has the drawback that you will lose any documents you have on the laptop but will bring it back to factory status.
Also there is the possibility that you might have some CD in the drive which is booting up and blocking the whole thing so please make sure that there isn't any CD's in there. If you do not want to lose the data on your computer you will have to take out your hard drive, put it in another computer copy its contents but NOTE DO NOT Format the Acer aspire 3050 drive as it is specially formatted. If there is nothing else to save the better so you can just recover it to when it was new using alt+f10 at boot up.
try to boot your machine using window 98 startup disk or window 98 bootable CD. then type fdisk on DOS prompt. Then try to delete non dos partation and the create primary dos partation. Restart your machine, let it start window or the floppy until it return to dos prompt. Then you can type the format c: e.g a:\format c: or D:\format c:. After that try to run window xp.
