Question about Televison & Video
I've had a Radio Shack RF Modulator for about a year now and it was working great. Then all of a sudden it quit working. I took it back to radio shack and they swaped it out for me. I hooked my new one up exactly the same way the old one was hooked up and its still not working. Ive tried everything I can think of (switching channles, unhooking it hooking it back up again, swaping out cords) nothing has worked so far!

Turn the set on, hook the cable directly to the TV, take the remote control and press 1 - 1 and if the TV tunes in channel 11 then your set is fine. If the TV was autoprogrammed when hooked to a cable box then the only channels that will be stored in memory are 3, maybe 4 and AUX. To correct this simply go back into the menu and look for the "autoprogram" option and perform the autoprogram while the cable is directly connected to the TV, without a cable box.

SOURCE: suddenly went off!
This is a power supply issue. Probably in the high voltage stages. Maybe a fuse, regulator IC, or Horiz. Output transistor or all of them. If you don't know anything about TV repair, you should take it to a shop that will provide an estimate to you.

Something did Pop and yes it will cost 150 - $300 to repair. The question is what would a new unit of the same size and quality cost. If the repair is about a third of the cost of a new unit , it would still be considered economical in RSA. If repaired it may run again for another 4 years so the Math speaks for itself. The decision entirely yours in the end. It could really be anything that popped so to give advice would be difficult. However, try the fuse first. It is certainly the cheapest option at the moment. depending on how you hooked it up; if thru coax cable the you have to use channel 3 or 4 on the tv to use Philips. If you are connecting with video and audio cables then you have to select a/v input on tv to use.
