Most of the time when I see this is because the Lamp door is not closed tightly. If you have already checked this and if the set worked perfectly before the lamp was replaced then there is a chance you got a defective lamp. On last caution, I would only use a lamp that came with a cage assembly. I do not recommend replacing the lamp it's-self by taking the cage apart. I have seen too many of them be the wrong lamp or the wrong wattage causing melting of the surrounding plastic cabinet. I stick with the Manufactures lamp assy.
Hope this helps,

then it is not on the bulb anymore, it is on the Horizontal Deflection Circuit Board, find it, have it replaced or repaired. Secondary to that is measure the output voltage of the TV power supply just before it connect to the horizontal output transistor, a good multimeter will do the job

I came home one night and the TV would not come on. Power light comes on for a few seconds and then goes out - no picture or sound. Is it worth having a technician look at it? Could it be a bulb? If so, can I install the bulb or do I need to have a techncian do it?
