Question about Dell Power Supply 330 Watts nps-330cb (NPS330CB) Power Supply

Dell NPS-210AB power supply starts up then shuts off

I am trying to use the a dell nps-210ab power supply +12 VDC output to power a car radio.

I have it plugged in and short pin 14 to ground and the fan starts for only about 1 second, I measure rising DC voltage on the +12 V pin but it never reaches +12 volts, it just goes back to zero.

It acts just like a car that starts up then immediately stalls.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Bob

I tried a single 12 volt automotive bulb but that did not work. I will apply a load to all lines and see if that works.

    Thank you Verosaka

    Verosaka,

Your suggestion worked. I loaded the +5 V line with an indicator lamp and the supply works now.

    Thank you for your help.

Hello bob, try putting a phanton loa on the other bars of the power supply, it seems tha the power supply is not starting, some switchin power supply require an apropiate load to start.

Put 5 Watt resistor between Ground (BLACK wire) and 5V ( RED wire).
Or Just connect PC FUN / COOLER to RED and BLACK wires.
AND also don't forget connect Green and ANY Black (Ground) wire together to start power supply Unit every time.
Power Supply unit will start on every time you give connection between Green and BLACK wire.
Tested with my Dell NPS-210AB works perfectly. It is all about putting a phantom load ;))

Second option:
If you do not have cheap 5 Watt resistor from Ebay.
Use any hard disk. Just connect it as usual only with POWER connector. It will work as a phantom load ( 5 Watt resistor).

AND also don't forget connect Green and ANY Black (Ground) wire together to start power supply Unit every time.
Power Supply unit will start on every time you give connection between Green and BLACK wire.

There is only one green wire and only one grey wire among all the wires ; just bridge them and the power supply will stay on.

I have a problem with dell nps-210ab. When i plug in power cable and without presing a button to start a computer cpu fan start turn very very fast it seam like he will fly away. No bios sound. Nothing

That is indicative of a Power On Self Test failure of the system. Remove all peripheral connections, all expansion cards and RAM and see if the symptoms change. If they do not, then replace the motherboard

Use nps-330ab for a normal power supply

You need to ground pin 14 momentarily to turn the power supply on. Pin 10 provides +12v, pin 12 provides -12v. Diagram here.
