Control panel not working

721.80412500 smart touch microwave. No response from control panel Can I buy part? what part number? Can I fix it myself?

  • landman69 Jun 30, 2009

I did the unplug thing. Still didn't work. It started with the number 1 not working then the 2. A few of the buttons work but won't let me set the clock. the start or cancel is non responsive. The color is buff. I am wondering if a new one would be cheaper than a repair as sears charges 100.00 to walk in the door weather they fix it or not.
The inside light comes on. thank you

    The
first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a
minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

    If that doesn't work,
leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes. Then let us know if the hard
reset does not fix it. Do you mean that it does not beep or change the display when you press a pad on the keypad? Does the inside light come on when you open the door? Lastly, what color is the unit (that affects part numbers in case it's the keypad).

Your membrane keypad is failing.

Actually this job on this model can be completed by a do-it-yourselfer (you or a friend) pretty easily and at around $50 or so. Here's how:

You can order the control panel frame assembly, which comes with a new keypad. It's part # 383EW5A231S and it runs $42.73 plus shipping form the Sears parts site.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Plus see this diagram at the Sears site.

Then you would disconnect the keypad strip from the circuit board as shown in the photo below.

After that, you take your circuit board out of the old frame (being careful not to drop or bump it) and put it in the new frame and put it all back together.

If you want to avoid taking out the board, you can order the complete controller assembly instead (frame with keypad and circuit board installed) part # 4781W1M432A for $87.02 plus shipping.

If you're still intimidated, at least watch our video. It's really pretty simple.

Touch Screen Not Working. Have cleaned the ribbon cable contacts and still the screen lights up showing the buttons but nothing on the touch pad works. If not the ribbon cable being dirty, I guess i

Most of the time the panel buttons stop working because grease gets between the outer panel and the contacts underneath. Disassemble the door and if you need to carefully peel back the outer panel, use some paper towels to remove the heavy grease, then using a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol clean the back of the panel and the surface contacts on the board, then re-assemble.

Amana rfs12sw2a....1200watt The soft touch buttons don't respond except for number 6....

Sounds like a bad control board. First just check and make sure all of your connectors are in tight. Part numbers for the control board is 53001806 you could have a bad touch panel. rare and not typical but can happen part number for that is 53002019. I would probably buy both of those parts plug in the new panel into the existing control board and see of everything works. if so replace the touch panel and send the control board back. If it still does not work then swap the control board and send the touch panel back. hope that helps

Where can i buy a control panel for a ge profile microwave model hvm1540

If you have pads failing on the membrane keypad or an "F3" error, you can buy the control panel assembly with a new keypad already attached here.

(You will need to enter your full model number from the tag in or on the unit, such as HVM1540WW001, etc.)

If you have other trouble, and it is the control board ("smart board") that is at fault, you can buy a new one here or you can get it repaired here for only $39.95 in most cases.

No display on microwave touchpad for ge Model JKP62G

The GE JKP62G Microwave / Oven combination has an internal fuse behind the control panel for the microwave. The oven will operate but the microwave will be totally dead (no light, no clock). Turn off the breaker for the oven at the fuse box (30 Amp double breaker). In order to replace the fuse you will have to open the door to the microwave, remove the two screws (Torx) from the front control panel (located on the left edge of the control panel), wiggle the panel to the left (there are two metal tabs that stick into the metal frame of the microwave on the right of the panel) and then tilt the panel down from the top. There is a metal bracket that holds the control panel to the microwave at the bottom (don't remove it). Look towards the top of the microwave inside the area behind the control panel and you will see a 15 Amp screw in fuse. Replace the fuse and that should fix your problem.

JVM1320WB001 1000W

The problem is damage to the control circuit board. This damage is usually caused by removing or installing light bulbs without disconnecting the oven from the power line first. We regularly repair these GE / Samsung smart boards for this problem for customers from across the country for $32.50. We have an important file called "safety.txt" which you can find by doing a search for "microwave safety.txt" on Yahoo.com. It's important information to consider before proceeding. When the varistor fails, it will be shorted. That will cause the whole oven to be "dead". It's almost certainly fine.
