721.80412500 smart touch microwave. No response from control panel Can I buy part? what part number? Can I fix it myself?
Your membrane keypad is failing.
Actually this job on this model can be completed by a do-it-yourselfer (you or a friend) pretty easily and at around $50 or so. Here's how:
You can order the control panel frame assembly, which comes with a new keypad. It's part # 383EW5A231S and it runs $42.73 plus shipping form the Sears parts site.
At
our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
Plus see this diagram at the Sears site.
Then you would disconnect the keypad strip from the circuit board as shown in the photo below.
After that, you take your circuit board out of the old frame (being careful not to drop or bump it) and put it in the new frame and put it all back together.
If you want to avoid taking out the board, you can order the complete controller assembly instead (frame with keypad and circuit board installed) part # 4781W1M432A for $87.02 plus shipping.
If you're still intimidated, at least watch our video. It's really pretty simple.

I did the unplug thing. Still didn't work. It started with the number 1 not working then the 2. A few of the buttons work but won't let me set the clock. the start or cancel is non responsive. The color is buff. I am wondering if a new one would be cheaper than a repair as sears charges 100.00 to walk in the door weather they fix it or not.
The inside light comes on. thank you
The
first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a
minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.
If that doesn't work,
leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes. Then let us know if the hard
reset does not fix it. Do you mean that it does not beep or change the display when you press a pad on the keypad? Does the inside light come on when you open the door? Lastly, what color is the unit (that affects part numbers in case it's the keypad).
