I have exactly the same problem on the same day! I have tried reistalling drivers etc and swapped to a second pc but have the same problem. I have repeatedly switched off and back on, tried using the lcd menu to adjust and reset. Searching the net and it looks like a failed backlight lamp? may be the cause. I have dropped an email to Acer to see if they can offer any support as it is still within a 3 year warranty.

I have a CRT MONITOR, yesterday I turned it on and the colors turned to ranges of green and pink with the center area just ok. I checked the pins and the cables and they are ok. However sometimes ther is some funny noise upn switching on the cpu, coming from the monitors cables. Sometimes the spread is extensive while but other times not so much

I'm having the same pinkish red problem. Is it worth fixing. I can use it with the monitor in a flat position. Will this do more damage until I can get to the repair shop 3 hours away from my home.

The lamps have not failed as you believe Steve. If they fail, then a protection circuit inside will shut them off all together.

Acers have a habit of capacitors failing. This in turn sends dodgy power to the inverter circuit and through to the lamps.

This is not a design flaw, it's just age. Capacitors can die early of course, but it's not common for them to go before the warranty period is up at least. Normally 3-5 years is what you can expect from them.

If you understand electronics then the job will be easy, if not have your local TV tech give it the once over before real damage is done.

I have been using a Toshiba laptop model "Satellite A135-S2276", since January 2007 without any problem. Yesterday morning I was using the machine and took it to the university in my bag and in the...

Hello !

Since an external monitor works, it is the display's backlight or inverter board.

If you were experiencing discoloration in the screen (pinkish lower light hues) before it failed, that would indicate a CCFL backlight issue. If the screen suddenly went dim on you rather than a slow degradation the inverter would be indicated.

In either case, a technician in your area should be able to help. Evalaute to see if the repair is cost-effective.

Hope this helps.

Acer al1714

The problem may not be the monitor. Acer AL1714 is known for its weak power supply unit. Unplug power supply from monitor. If the green light on monitor comes on but goes out quickly, the power supply is the culprit!
