Question about Datamax E-Class E-4205A Direct Thermal Printer - Monochrome - Desktop
Does advance to tear if manual button is pressed. sensor seems to be working
Are you referring to the position where the label stops after printing to be on the backing (gap) between the two labels in order to tear it without pressing the feed button to do so?
Seems like the stop position after printing is incorrect.
Firstly you can do a Quick media calibration by switching the printer off, hold down the feed button while switching the printer back on, hold down for 10 seconds until the LED Light blinks Green and release. The labels should start feeding and then stops, press the feed button once to feed one label and see if it stops at the tear position.
This can also be corrected by using either the DMXConfig Configuration Utility or NETira Configuration Utility when using a USB, LPT or Serial connection to set this on the printer, look out for something like "stock" or "stop position" and choose "Tear Off".
If all else fails, try doing a Manual Media Calibration by using the Wizard in NETira Configuration Utility.

I can't give the exact solution for this printer, however, I use the Epson POS thermal printer and here was our solution. In Windows 7 go to Devices and Printers. Click on Printer Properties. Then see if you see a tab that says Document Settings. Under that setting click on Paper Source. You should now see several options; I have mine set on Document(Feed, No Cut). There are other options but we prefer to tear ours off. You can chose Document(Feed, Cut) and it should advance then cut the paper for you.
