Question about Samsung HLN617W 61" Rear Projection HDTV

Samsung HLN617w won't turn on

We experienced a power outage, but the t.v. was not on at the time. The t.v. is connected to surge protection. When power returned, t.v. had three lights on solid in front and a fan was running. It would not respond to any power buttons or remote control. I turned off power by unplugging. Fan stopped. I left power off for several hours, powered back up with same result. any suggestions?

How old is the surge protector you used? Because they only last for so long and can absorb so many surges. I hate to say it but it sounds like your TV sustained a power surge.

Today my power went out for a split second and came back on I turn my TV back on it makes a high pitched whining noise and the screen wont turn on. Cant add picture but model number is MW30G71.

unplug your tv. let it sit for a good bit. 1/2 hour did your power just go out or did you have a power surge then no power. surges cause the grid to go down for a second too and that causes problems too. surge protectors are good for everything. also are you on cable? if so have the cable company check they're filters into the house may be an issue but check the tv after a half hour unplgged and then plug in and turn on normally? sometimes it needs a reset time period before the fuses inside will reset themselves.

Samsung hln617w TV Dlp lamp won't turn on already replaced lamp, ballast, color wheel

It sounds like the main power supply has a bad capacitor. its a typical issue with a lot of electronic. look on the main power board that the outlet cord comes in to the TV and check all the cylindrical components for swelling, leakage, or singe makes.

Our electricity went out for a few minutes, and since then the TV will not turn on. The green light is flashing. We tried resetting it by pushing a pen point into the reset hole, but it does nothing. ...

Your power outage may have been caused by a nearby lightning strike, or any number of
1000 different reasons that cause power surges, brown-outs, voltage spikes, inductive loading,
and/or utility pole breaker trips and resets (this accounts for your power loss (a pole breaker trip),
followed by restoration of power (the pole breaker automatically reset) - even plain old high electrical demand causing an overload due to air conditioning demands caused by hot weather.
When the pole breaker reset, your TV caught a power surge.
Whenever a power outage occurs, quickly power off (or better, unplug) any/all computers, TVs,
etc. that are not protected by surge-protection.
As an electrician, when someone loses an item of electronics concommitant to an electrical
anomaly, its almost
always traceable to a nearby lightning strike (or the power company provided equivalent), accompanied by inadequate surge protection for
the VCR/TV/Computer/Stereo/uninsured valuable electronic item/XBOX 360/Nintendo Wii.
Surge protection can
be provided by the consumer at the power strip (a good one with builtin MOV protection and a
warranty costs $20, whereas a zero-protection 4-outlet or 6-outlet power strip will cost $4-$5).
Your electrician can provide whole-house surge protection where a whole-house MOV-based (metal oxide varistor) surge protector, or per-circuit protection can be installed with
a GFCI breaker (or better, an AFCI breaker) can be installed.
GFCI = ground fault circuit interruptor
AFCI = Arc fault circuit interruptor
Lightning protection is especially important in Florida, which is the "lightning capital of the world."
I've never found a good solution to lightning-fried electronics (random power supply components are destroyed and/or fuse blown), other than renters insurance or homeowners insurance.

Your only real hope for an economical fix is to look for a blown fuse, and replace it.

If desperate to attempt a fix on your own, you could try replacing the entire TV power supply as a module, but even this provides
no guarantee of a fix - lightning damage can extend beyond the power supply.
When traveling, I will always unplug everything before I leave (except the security system),
and also turn off the breakers to unneeded house circuits (which kills the wall switches that
control interior lighting - forcing a burglar to use their flashlight instead of interior lighting)
which is the least convenient lightning protection, but highly effective, and cheap (free).

You have a power board error, and TV is in protect mode. This had been caused by the power surges.

Try leaving the TV disconnected from power (unplug cord) for several hours, or overnight.
This will allow PSU capacitors full discharge and can fix PSU fault after power surge. If it does not correct the problem , then there is a faulty component.
In that case the TV must be tested and repaired by a technician.

Tv wont power up when it does no picture

The Philips Projection t.v.s have a built in overvolt protection system. The t.v. may have experienced a power surge/outage/issue. Simply unplug the t.v. for about an hour to allow the overvolt issue to drain and reset. My Philips did the same thing about 1 1/2 years ago and we have never had another problem with it since. The repair guy was going to come out and charge us about $400 just to look at it !
Hope this solves the problem. If this does not, unplug the t.v. and carefully remove the back lower cover. There is a small 250 volt .5 amp fast acting fuse near the back of the unit on the circuit board. Use caution This may have been blown during a power spike/outage/surge. This is the first line of defense that gives the t.v. some degree of protection. Most Radio Shacks/Ace Hardware stores carry these small fuses.

Samsung hln617w non power up

Most of the time when these sets won't turn off it's caused by the DMD but check the color wheel connectors first, especially the flat ribbon cable. Make sure it's in the connector in the correct direction, only has contacts on one side and make sure the ribbon is not torn.
