The bearing is nothing to replace once you have it.
but you have to dissemble the machine ,
take off the top and bottom access panel,
front control panel , front door assembly
now remove the drum as a unit.
you have to mark any hoses and wiring you disconnect.
its best to do it in the middle of garage,
I am having the same problem. During warranty period Sears Tech said it was just a piece of loose rubber. Now it's the bearing
i had the same problem but have an extended warranty. the technician said it was a bad bearing. they fixed at a cost $1334.95. i can't believe they didn't replace the machine because the cost of a new machine would be less than the repair. great business decision. i'm so glad for the warranty. the technician told me it happened because i used the wrong detergent. however, i've only used the recommended. i think it's the excessive vibration when it spins. the technician said i could never get rid of the vibration unless it was on a cement pad. i don't know what i'll do when the warranty runs out. buy something else
I have same problem. It suddenly start making a lot of noise while spinning the clothes and then suddenly goes quite as working normal. I was thinking that something small has gone out through the drums holes and stuck somewhere in the driving/rotating system to cause this sudden/intermittent noise.
similar problem here as well. i removed the back cover and found the pulley on the back of the drum would bind while spinning the drum manually. i believe this to be a bearing problem. now to find the parts!
also, i believe this was due to washing heavy rugs that initially caused the drum to be out of balance.this, over time, probably caused the bearing to fail. there is a brown powder leaking from the bolt in the center of the drum, which i believe dripped out of the bearing when it was in use (otherwise, how would powder drip;-)).
