Problem with Bostitch air compressor Rilsan tube? Low pressure!

Hi All:

My question is regarding the ''Rilsan tube'' on my Bostitch CAP2060P compressor. Currently I can only achieve ~70 PSI, I believe because there appears to be an air relief hole built into the connector on the end of the tube that enters the AC switch, and as the compressor is attempting to achieve max pressure there is air coming out of this relief hole. The ''pin'' at the end of the tube is NOT protruding during the compression process. Do I have a defective Rilsan tube?

Thanks very much!

Thanks for the quick reply! The pressure switch you're talking about appears to be integrated into one end of the Rilsan tube, correct? So in other words I would be replacing the Rilsan tube? When I run the compressor with the tube disconnected from the AC "switch" end, the "pin" in the tube does not protrude and air is coming out of the hole near the pin, so I think this is the part you're suggesting to replace. Thanks again!

THE PRESSURE SWITCH HAS A RELIEF VALVE ON IT THAT DRAINS THE PRESSURE WHEN IT ELECTRICALLY SHUTS OFF. IT HAS A LEVER STICKING OUT THAT HITS A "SCHRADER" VALVE. COMMONLY KNOWN AS A "TIRE STEM" IN ANY VALVE STEM IN THE TIRE ON YOUR CAR. THIS VALVE COULD BE BAD OR THE LEVER STICKING OUT COULD BE BENT PRESSING ON IT ALL THE TIME. I WOULD REPLACE THE PRESSURE SWITCH, IT WILL FIX BOTH OF THESE PROBLEMS. TAKE YOUR SWITCH WITH YOU TO ENSURE YOU GET THE SAME THING (SIZE, PSI RATING, ETC) HOPE THIS HELPS. JODY

Ozzie, You could try cleaning and adjusting the cut off pressure and if that does not do it you can replace the pressure switch. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Runs great. Why doesn't it maintain compression?

did you aready inspect your check valve? after it runs it should have a check valve so when it starts again it doesn't have to fight the pressure, look at that, or are your petcocks to drain the water tight, perhaps use a teaspoon of dish soap and rest water in spray bottle and figure out where the thing is leaking. look for bubbles, spray all the exit points. good luck

Compresor will not hold pressure

Some are push down to lock so you need to lightly pull up on the knob before trying to turn it. If the regulator itself is bad the correct one is part #AB-9051116 and is less then $10. Any Bostitch or DeWalt (the companies merged) can get this part for you. Here is a link to the parts diagram. It is item 108 and is called a pressure reducer.

I have a Stanley Bostitch Oil Free Air Compressor 6.0 Gal 2.0 Hp Peak, 1.5 Hp Running 135 Psi The problem is it won't blow out air or hold the air.. How can I fix this?

Some Bostitch compessors are very unique in that they intake air from below the piston. If you cannot find an air filter, then your compessor has reed valve built into the piston that may cause problems. If you have an air filter on the head of the pump, then you have reed valves in the head. When the reed valves fail, there will be very little or no air pressure. Second problem with all compressors is the in-tank check valve. This valve allows air to enter the tank and not back-out into the compressor. Easy to check. Add air into tank with another compressor thru the quick connect and listen for air leaking around the head or pressure switch. If no leaks and pressure holds in the tank then valve ok. Examine the condition of the cylinder and piston ring by rotating the crank by hand so that the piston is at top of cylinder. Look for scratches around upper part of cylinder wall. If scratches, then replace cylinder and piston ring. If top of cylinder looks good, then suspect reed valves. Good luck

CAP 2060P air compressor won't start. How does the red on/off switch work? Ours just turns and hard to tell where it is supposed to be. Also, is there a reset button someplace? Thanks.

The pressure switch installed on your unit is of the pull / push type. Let all the air out of the tank and plug it in to wall outlet. Push red knob in firmly then pull out for desired results. The pressure switch contacts can fail but usually after many hours of hard service. No reset /thermal breaker is listed on the replacement parts list. You can view at WWW.bostitch.com click on service / parts then look for your model number from the pull-down list. Good luck with your compressor.

My guess is the pressure switch is stuck. Unplug it take the cover off where you turn it on and tap around the contactors lightly with a screwdriver. Then plug it back in and try it.

I'd pull the cover off to expose top of cylinder head and have a look at any intake air filter. In parts diagram, It appears there is a small one that would likely clog during the texturing process.
