Video card is the number 1 issue for Toshiba satellite models, need to reheat the mounting of the video card.

avoid disassembling the unit, what I did was.
*blow dryer (for the hair)
1.use the blow dryer to heat up the side of your Toshiba, point at the exhaust, located on the left side, do this for 35 seconds.
2.after using the blower, turn on the power button again and see what happens =D

hopefully it will work.
NOTE:
I had the same problem and it solved the issue.

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5010.. Power on, but Blank screen/ hard drive light also not.

Hi,
This could be a Power/Switch Problem.
Faulty Hard-Drive.
Solution:- Leave the laptop turned Of And charge the battery to Full Capacity. ( usually between 4-16 Hours ) depending on capacity.
This will also fully charge the CMOS ( memory battery )
then boot the laptop up, and see if this solves your problem.
If not i,d suggest running a scandisk or hard-drive diagnostic program, to ensure that you have no Viruses-bad sectors on the hard-drive.
If you need further assistance please don,t hesitate to ask for more help and advice.

SOURCE: HP Pavillion dv6700 - black screen

Do the following without the battery inserted.

Let the computer sit with no battery for 24 hours. Do not put the battery in at all. Try using your original memory stick ONLY, with no hard drive and see if it will POST. If it does, insert the hard drive and try again. Could be the new memory...

Another thing you can try is reseating the processor. Turn the ZIF screw, take the processor out (WATCH THE PINS!!) and put back in GENTLY. Leave the memory in the computer, hard drive removed, try to power on.

These models have been known for bad motherboards. Contact HP and arrange to send it in. If you do enough digging on HPs website, you'll find the service advisory.

Blank screen

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

When pressing the power button the blue LED on the front for power, hard drive illuminate briefly and then go out. The LED about the mouse pad does the same as does the DVD drive. Does this sound like...

  1. Check your power cord & adapter.
  2. If its working then check the battery, reseat the battery & check.
  3. If available then check with another battery.
If no, then remove the battery & switch on the PC in AC mode.
  4. Check if battery charging indication or AC power on indication is glowing. if not then need to change ur motherboard.
  5. If indication is OK, but could not power ON then check ur RAM for any loose connection or dust. clean & reinstall.
  6. If still no display, connect an external monitor, check if display is coming. If Display is coming then your LCD need to replace.
  7. Still nothing change, take it to a service centre.

Cannot turn on my LG Notebook anymore

Will the laptop boot with the power adapter connected and battery removed? If so, boot it up and install the battery once it's booted up. If okay now, the battery was just really really drained. If okay with no battery but no good with battery, the battery may be bad, or something in the charging circuit may be defective - keep the battery out or replace mainboard ($$$$ - get a new laptop)
If no good with ac adapter and no battery, test the adapter with an electrical meter. It should be putting out 18-19 volts. If not, try a replacement adapter. If adapter tests good but laptop won't boot with no battery, likely the mainboard.
Also - remove hard drive and try to power up. If good, replace hard drive. If no good, reinstall hard drive and remove ram and try to power up. If it powers up, clean the ram and slot contacts gently with a pink pencil eraser and try testing each ram chip in each slot, 1 chip at a time. If still no good, start shopping for a new laptop.

Let me know if this helps or not...

HP DV2036ea i have a blank screen on the computer

Hello there

Description.

When pressing the notebook power button nothing is displayed on the screen or display. The cause of this problem may be a failed AC adapter, the memory modules (RAM) need to be reseated or a failed notebook system board component which will require an HP certified repair.

Below steps will assist in identifying the cause of the problem and suggest the best solution. Test the AC adapter Follow the steps below to determine whether the problem is related to the AC adapter or your notebook system board.
  1. Remove the battery and disconnect all external devices from the computer.
  2. Hold the Power button for several seconds, with all power sources removed. This drains residual power from the system, and may correct many problems.
  3. Connect the AC adapter to a wall outlet and plug the other end into the computer.
  4. Press the Power button to start the notebook PC.
If the notebook does not start or the display is blank then check the power indicator light or power socket LED. Check the power indicator light or power socket LED On newer models of notebook PCs, there is an LED or indicator light around the power socket on the notebook. Check to see if this light is on or off, when the notebook is plugged into AC power. The power indicator light or power socket light should turn on when the AC adapter is connected.

  • If the light does not turn on then the problem is most likely related to the AC adapter or the electrical source in your home or office. Go to the Light does not turn on section on this page.
  • If the light does turn on but the notebook does not start or the there is a blank screen then continue to the Light does turn on but the notebook does not start section on this page

The light does not turn on when the AC adapter is connected If the power indicator LED is off, the AC power adapter may need to be replaced. To determine if the AC power adapter needs to be replaced follow the steps below:
  1. Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged directly into a known working wall outlet.
NOTE: To check the wall outlet, plug in a different known working device like a light, radio etc.
  2. Check all of the following connections:
    • The connection from the power cord to the wall outlet.
    • The connection into the power adapter from the power cord.
    • The connection from the AC adapter to the notebook power socket.
  3. Press the power button again to test the notebook PC.
If the power indicator light still does not turn on, then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced. Contact HP Service and Support for further assistance. Power socket LED or power indicator light is on but the notebook does not start If notebook power indicator light (LED) is on, the AC adapter is working correctly. The problem is a result of a hardware failure in the notebook itself. In some cases, reseating the memory module (RAM) may solve the problem.

Notebook not starting and screen remains blank.

this will be easer than you think.
first unplug power cord, pull out your battery and test it by pushing the button on the battery. It will be dead. leave it out. plug in power cord, nothing should work. test your power cord. if nothing than test lower on the cord it might be the plug in that plugs into the laptop. what happens is the battery get to low and the lappy goes into a safe mode . you will need a charged battery to get it to boot.
