The torque on my self propelled Toro Mower seems to not be self driving like it used to. It also is making a weird sound.

I agree with the previous answer. Likely the belt is off. Easy to fix and it happens pretty easy especially if you hit sticks or a branch and something (even a tiny stick or twig) finds its way under the plastic cover and gets into the belt area. Grab a pair of pliars, take off the bolt holding the plastic part down on the front and check the belt. If it is off or not alligned right, slip back on check debris. If problem is still there you may be looking at the actual drive shaft itself and that can be a real problem....the kind you may want to take to the local hardware store.

My toro self propelled lawn mower won't roll backwards... the wheels are locked up

My Toro Pace Master self propelled 22" 6.75 mower will not move by itself. I can push the mower and cut. It does start with no problem. I have a cable on left side of the mower that extends to the top of the handle broken off at the top of the mower and is loose. Is there a way to check to see if this is why it will not self propel. It attaches to the push handle that does I push down to propel the mower. Any suggestions?

Toro Personal Pace self propel problem.

Your self-propel is probably belt driven. Belts can make an awfully lot of noise when unhappy. Possible it has rolled over and is running on the wrong side of the belt or is worn and just needs replaced. Hope this helps.,

Toro 20016 self propel

If you take the wheels off and remove the belt from the small pulley on the the front axle underneath the pulley you should see a small transmission. You usually can split this unit in half . You will see two gears and sometimes one plastic and one metal. The plastic one is usually the culprit. Hope this will help you out. Donnyb60
