Question about Maytag MSD2454G Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a problem with my freezer, it has water pooling then freezing in the bottom of the freezer. The water also runs out onto the floor. It looks to be coming out of the opening in the back of the freezer compartment. It stops when I turn off the water to the ice maker. Any suggestions on how to correct?

I opened up the back part of the freezer section and checked the drain line, It was fine. I had to take off the panels inside the freezer to find the drain hole. It was frozen solid. I took a blow dryer and thawed out the drain. The blockage was actually cause by a piece higher up that had a putty substance covering it. The putty had come off and fell in the drain line clogging it. I removed the putty from the drain line and recovered the putty on the piece above. I think that this might cause another issue later on, but now I know how to fix it. Thank-you so much jumptrout51. You were a lifesaver!

Your defrost drain line is clogged and frozen over with ice.
Turn off the fridge. Remove the bottom freezer drawer. Take a hair dryer and thaw the drain hole at the back bottom section of the freezer. After you defrost the drain line pour 1/4 cup bleach into the drain hole.

Frigidaire FFHS2311LWD has water pooling up and freezing bottom drawer and lower vent. Drain tube doesn't seem to be clogged. Water leaks onto floor some days.

the drain tube is most likely clogged. if the lower vent is freezing up there is no way to confirm because it is covered with ice. the reason water leaks onto the floor is, the refrigerator goes into defrost, frost melts and runs down the ice to the door. use a hair dryer to remove all ice, then use hot water to check drain. drain tube may be up to a foot long and may have a trap. you may have to go in through the back to gain access to the drain

My Maytag MZD2766GES is leaking water to the bottom of my freezer, which, when it get alot starts leaking all over the floor. where is this coming from?

Hello,

The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.

I hope this helps you to stop the leak,
Gene

I have the same problem. Water from the defrost coil is not running out the outlet, but freezing in the defrost "catch" pan and outlet tube. Once water freezes, then water from subsequent defrost cycles, runs into the freezer floor and eventually out to the front or side. I don't have a permanent solution, but you can take the inside panel off with the four screws and see the problem. Chip out the ice dam and clear pathway with very hot water. I have read that lowering the freezer temp may prevent. Open to new ideas or permanent solutions. Good luck!

Water pools at bottom of freezer, freezes and water leaks out

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove bottom shelf from fridge and remove the styrofoam..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the Freezer is because the water has been leaking into the freezer instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. Water Pooling and freezing on floor of freezer

most likely you have a frozen drain in the freezer section so that whne your refrig defrosts the water runs out into the freezer compartment instead of the drain pan underneath. the fix is to flush the drain with warm water to clear the obstruction. the drain can be reached either by removing the cover in the freezer area or by back flushing the line from beneath the refrig.
