It depends...if you plan on watching dvd's in while parked with your E-brake engaged only then it goes to your E-brake
OR
if you want to watch them while in motion:

and If you have the old firmware then all you need to do is ground the parking brake wire

or if you have the new firmware(just bought the system) a toggle switch is involved:
1 - connect e-brake wire from dvd unit to the switch
2 - connect a ground wire from switch to the unit chassis(any good metal grounding surface will do)
3 - pop in a dvd, toggle the switch back and forth 2 or 3 times depending on what wire you placed where...and voilaa!! your dvd system should work in motion!!

Where do the 4 wires that plug into the brake light switch on a 1989 Chevy Cheyenne 1500 truck origanate from

Are you having trouble with brake lamps? The orange wire is voltage for brake lamps, voltage comes from fuse. When brake switch is activated, the white wire goes hot, goes to turn signal switch. Your lower brake lamps are wired through turn signal switch.
Any other wires may be for cruise control, where applicable. I'm probably leaving something out, I just can't think what it is, at the moment?

Third eye works no rear signal or brake lights

The high mount brake light gets its own signal from the brake light switch (on the brake pedal). Or at least the wire leaving the brake light switch will splice, one wire to the high mount brake light, and the other for the rear brake lights is routed through the turn signal switch, and coordinated there with the turn signal wires to the rear brake lights. The brake wires and turn signal wires share the same wire, and same filament in the bulbs. It is kind of complicated, but brakes applied with no turn signal, brake light wire goes from brake light switch through the turn switch and out to the bulbs. If brakes applied with turning signal, non blinking brake light wire goes from turn switch to rear light, while the turning signal wire will go through the flasher relay, and then to the rear light to cause blinking.

I hope that makes sense. It appears the problem may be in the turn signal switch for both the turn signals and the rear brake lights.

My brake lights are tied in to one wire to be connected to the brake light switch I guess. Where are the two wires from the brake light switch suppose to be connected

one wire is 12 volt power all the time weather the key is on or not, the other wire goes to the turn signal switch on most models, ( you did not give your year or model ) , if the car uses the rear turn signals as brake lights also then the wire goes threw the turn signal switch, if the car has a separate turn signal bulb in the rear ( usely has amber lens in the rear ) then the second wire from the brake light switch goes to the BCM ( body control module ) and the BCM turns the brake lights on.

What causes the brake lights not come on,but allow 3rd mount light to come on? i've checked the bulbs, sockets, fuses. now i'm stumped.

THOSE LIGHTS ARE ON 2 DIFFERENT CIRCUITS. ONE WHITE WIRE COMING OUT OF THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH GOES TO THE CENTER BRAKE LIGHT. THE OTHER WHITE WIRE GOES FROM THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TO & THROUGH THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH SO THE LIGHTS CAN BE USED AS BRAKE LIGHTS OR TURN LIGHTS. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS GOOD BECAUSE THE CENTER BRAKE LIGHT IS WORKING. IT IS A BAD WIRE { WHITE } FROM THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TO THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH OR A BAD TURN SIGNAL SWITCH.

Brake Light Switch- I am trying to locate the switch, and the wire which comes out of the switch (that goes to the brake lights I presume). I am trying to install a Tekonsha P3 electric brake controller,...

Below are a couple pictures of the switch. There are 2 connectors on it--one with 2 wires and one with 4 wires. The wire you want is the white wire from the 2-wire connector. This is the switched power. It goes to a connector (shown) and up through the steering column to the directional switch, as the same bulb filaments that burn the brakes are used for the turn signals. After going thru the directional switch, green and yellow wires come down thru the same connector shown and lead to the right and left brake/signal lights. The orange wire goes to the fuse. see picture below. Does this help?

I need to wire an electric brake controller in my truck

you can either wire it straight or gm makes a connector that plugs into the drivers side floor . theres a box down there that has a cover over it and the gm connector plugs straight to it. but be careful because i have seen several times were gm wired it wrong the stop light plug is in the wrong spot.take a test light to ground touch each connector while pressing and releasing brake pedal the one that lights the light, is your stop light look on there connector and check to see if that plug is going to the red wire if not move the red wire to that spot. as for wiring it you have to do it this way. black wire goes to constent hot, white wire goes to constent ground , blue wire goes back to your trailer plug for your electric brake, and red wire as you know by now goes to the stop light.

Brake wire for Jensen VM9311ts

You first have to figure out which one of these wires goes to ground potential when the brake is engaged. Get a digital multimeter set it to read resistance (turn the dial to the omega symbol)and then connect one end to ground of the car try the outer ring of the 12 cigarette lighter and the other using the tip to pierce the insulation of one of the wires, then press the parking brake. The meter with the brake not pressed should have ---- when the break is pressed the meter should read 0000 or some value less then 1.000 ohm. The wire that goes to ground when the brake is pressed is the parking break wire and attach your DVD player brake wire to that. My money is on the solid green wire.
