Question about Craftsman 10" Table Saw

1 Answer

Craftsman 10" - blade turns, albeit slower, but cannot cut.

The blade turns at a much lower RPM and cannot handle any load. Stops spinning when it touches the wood. Is there a clutch?

Blade not cutting. How can I adjust? Craftsman model 358.796480

When the blades are engaged do they turn? It could be a belt is loose tha causes the blades not to spin. Check the handle that engages the mower deck to see if it goes into the proper slot which would cause the blades to spin.

Do the blades need sharpening? Check the belts for tightness and the spring that holds the tension. what stops? The blades stop, but the belt is still turning? Check to also make sure the blades turn freely with the belt disengaged. you may have a spindle problem too.

10" tablesaw just started to

Hi, W/D here.
Unplug the saw first. Raise the plastic around the blade on the table and look first for material around the arbor, particularly slivers of wood. These can sometimes act as a "brake" and cause the machine to rotate slower. Clean out all sawdust and wood slivers. You can get most of it with a vacuum. While you have access to the arbor, rotate the arbor by hand, feeling for excessive resistance. You can lubricate the arbor with a light machine oil. Look at the belt, and test the tension by squeezing the belt toward the other side, in the middle between the pulley on the motor and the pulley on the arbor. It should squeeze in (deflect) about an inch or so, and be tight in it's position. If the quality of the belt is not up to par; if you feel that it is stretched, or is cracked or otherwise deteriorated, replace it. You can get replacement belts from auto parts stores, at a significantly lower price than ordering through Sears. They'll match you up. While the belt is off, blow the windings of the motor out with compressed air. Sawdust infiltrated into the motor can also cause the motor to run slower. Lastly, take a very close look at the blade. A dull blade will cut slower, and this is especially noticeable in wetter and harder woods. Examples of wetter wood would include treated lumber; harder woods would include species like oak. If the blade is dull, have it sharpened, or replace it.
Best regards, --W/D--

My Craftsman riding mower runs fine but when I try to cut thick or tall grass the blades slow down and stop cuting, I replaced the belt thinking the belt was worn only to find I still have the same...

well yep it is,,,look at the deck first to check its not tight to turn look for sezed up bearings,,,then check that the drive belt/s are tight and not flopy and slipping also it would be a good time to check the cutting blades they need to be sharp and not blunt or they strain the belts and start them slipping too also the engine wont like the extra load put on it
