No power reaching the display on the top/Stove & oven not working

We cut the power to install a ceiling fan (to be on the safe side, you know...) and when we flipped the breaker back on our GE 30 In. Freestanding Electric Range did not come back on. The display will not light up, the burners will not turn on, and the oven will not come on. We pulled it out to check the connections and to see if there was a reset button on the plug, but there is not and there is no obvious problem that we can find. Can we fix this?

All of the items you mention that do work, are 120 volt items.
All the items that do NOT work are 220 volt items.
Sounds like you have a voltage problem, you will need to use a meter to check if you have 220 volts a/c to the outlet the stove plugs into. Take care when doing the following, you will be around live voltage and could get hurt. If you are uncomfortable working with a live circuit best to call someone in to do it for you. Check for 220v at the outlet for the stove (where the stove plugs into), if you have it there, go to where the cord attaches to the stove and check at that point. You should have either a 3 or 4 wire cord on the stove, On the rear of the stove there is a terminal block that the cord is fastened to. Between RED and BLACK you should have 220v, between RED and WHITE and BLACK and WHITE you should see 120v. Another thing to check is that the nuts holding the wires from the cord to the terminal block on the stove are turned down tight. A loose connection there will give you the same problem you have as well.

SOURCE: Oven not working

This is either a faulty display panel, or a short inside the oven that is causing the panel malfunctioning.

The wirings, elements (both), thermostat contacts inside the oven must be checked for an eventual short. If there is none, replace the control assembly.

You find parts and diagrams here, just enter the correct model number.

I just moved into a new apartment and my stove wasn't working properly. After reading the very helpful information posted by kd3ke, I decided to turn off the breaker to my stove, take off the back covering, and check out what was back there. I was experiencing the same problem as posted.... the burner light, oven light and clock were all working however, the burners did not get hot nor did the oven. After taking off the back panel, the cord did have just as he stated, a black, white, and red wire however the plug attatching to the stove did not have cordinating colors. It was just a grey cord with 3 copper wire heads. It seemed to me that the cord was twisted and therefore everything was backwards. Since I was relying on his post, that would explain why the stove still did have some power, just not all, because the voltagages were wrong. I flipped the three cord wires, reconnected them to the stove and then plugged it in and turned on the breaker... everything works now!!! :) I don't know if this will help anyone else since it may not be the same problem if your stove was working properly previously, but it fixed the problem for me since I had just moved in.

Stovetop & Oven not heating but clock, lights, & vent fan are working

It sounds like you are getting only one side of the power to your stove. the lights will work but no heat. your power breaker has two sides for an electric stove. It may be one side isn't reset properly. make sure that you snap the breaker completely off and then completely back on. if that doesn't work perhaps an electrician is in order or one side of your power cord has burned off at the terminal block. I have had this happen.

It is possible that a down draft venting stove such as a Jenn-Air could have been previously installed and now there is this stove that doesn't need this vent system.

XL44 broiler and stove top work oven does not

The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. This video will walk you thru the correct procedure for testing an oven igniter. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

An overheating magnetron can be :
  • operating oven without cover(s) in place
  • wrong magnetron installed in oven
  • an old or otherwise failing magnetron
  • cracked magnetron magnet
  • improper power line voltage (US homes should be 110-125VAC)
  • foods low in moisture (popcorn & bacon, e.g. - add 1/2 cup of water in rear oven)
  • failed or inoperable cooling fan or hood vent exhaust fan
  • deteriorating foam weatherstripping seals in air ducts or on outside cover
  • blocked air vents (dust, animal nest debris, insufficient free air space behind & around oven, etc.)
  • clogged or greasy charcoal filter or grease filter
  • blocked duct in hood vent exhaust
I suspect a failure or the fan, clogged filter or bad magnetron.

I appreciate your thoughtful rating of my answer.

This oven needs the time set after a power failure. The LED display will read HELPME and there is a small knob on the left side you need to turn it to set to change the time and use the second knob from left side to + and once done leave the knob on manual. The oven can be timed to turn off but it the time is not set on it the oven and stove do not work.dux_training.jpg

My stove

This indicates that the control coolinf fan is not working correctly so the safety thermostat cuts out the cooker until the surface area cooles down, this could be caused by a faulty fan motor of a faulty cut in thermostat Regards, Engineer
