Vintage AMF Generator light kit new in box

I can get the rear light hooked up to the generator to weork properly. All grounds are in place, the front light works but the rear doesnt.I had flashes of the rear light working but I can keep it consistent. I feel it has something to do with the wire that the bulb screws in next to.Does the wire in the socket have to touch the bottom or does it just need to be touching the side of the bulb?

Before you do anything else, carefully examine the filament in the rear bulb for any breaks. Shake it and see if anything moves. Replace with an equal wattage flashlight bulb and see if it works then. If I remember those generators correctly (jeez, it's been a long time), there was one wire to the side of the bulb and one to the little tip at the end of the bulb. It doesn't make any difference which goes where since it is DC. If you are interested in upgrading a bit, Mag-Lite sells high output LCD replacement bulbs for about $18 at Home Depot or Lowe's. They are very vibration resistant, put out about 4 times as much light as a tungsten bulb with the same voltage, and last a LOT longer.

Here are many advantages LED bulbs have over incandescent lamps. The main advantage in energy conservation is that they utilize less energy than conventional types because they do not contain a filament. Bright Night Lights LEDs are basically a transistor and work on electronics principles.

How does the wiring go from the own generator to its battery and then to electric panel

the ONAN generator only charges its own battery that it uses to start the machine, the generator itself is grounded with a 6 ft copper rod that is driven into the ground and secured to the ground strap of the generator, the wiring from the generator goes to a transfer switch that is installed ONLY BY A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN! DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS YOURSELF!,the switch is hooked up to your main electric line at the meter and to the breaker box, when the switch is used,it shuts off the main electricity from the company and opens the circuit to the generator only.here is the transfer switch,it can run everything up too 100 amps in your house or only 1 thing like your heat.

Intermittent charging

Generally that indication implies generator failure. Generator failure can come in multiple forms. A faulty ground will cause the generator not to charge and potentially burn it up. A severed phase wind (remember, your alternator is really a three-phase generator with a six pulse front end rectifier set) will cause the light to intermittently come on along with weak charging output. A voltage regulator failure will cause zero field current in the rotor. A brush failure will also cause a generator failure light to come on and stay on. A rectifier failure (any of the six) will cause the generator not to charge properly and turn on the MIL and generator failure indicator (looks like a battery). The condition of the battery can also cause generator failure, if the battery is defective (buckled plates, weak electrolyte, low water, etc.) it will place a very high load on the generator continuously, causing it to 'full field' the rotor which can cause the rotor to overheat and fail. Never run a generator without the battery terminals connected as this will cause it to fail quite spectacularly. Do not attempt to verify output of the generator with the battery terminal leads disconnected.

If generator failure is indeed the cause, find out why. Generators rarely fail. When they do, it usually is caused by poor ground connections, corroded battery terminals, high continuous loads, electrical faults and poorly-wired ancillary equipment, such as head units, amplifiers, inverters, etc. Always check all these out when replacing the generator. Never run a generator without the battery terminals connected as this will cause it to fail quite spectacularly.

Sparking in power box when we use the generator and trips the braker

When you say "power box" do you mean the main breaker box in your house? Is the generator hooked up to the breaker that you say trips when the generator is on? There is a short somewhere. First check the generator. Is it running OK. In other words if you plug something into the generator receptacle directly, does it work? If the generator itself works properly, then check the wiring from the generator to the circuit breaker. DO NOT use the generator until the problem solved = safety first.

Took my ev6010 generator out and put it back in but hooked up the starter motor to the ground not to the positive and now it wont start. I also changed the oil and coolant.

On the ev6010 Honda generator the posive starter wire is black and was accidently hooked up to the chassis ground wire. Then the start button was pushed and nothing happened. I corrected the wire hookup to the positive side but will not start still

Ground the generated it's self. I had a similar problem after a storm once. First on the generater itself find a flat peice on the frame say by the motor. Sand in down to mettal. Put a self tapper screw in. Now get a 5' to 6' peice of 10 gauge bear copper wire. Attache it to the generator and shove the rest into the ground. Now it's grounded and It took care power surges when I did it. Hopefully this will help you.

Motor weorks generater just stoped all at once

Check the mechanical coupling between the motor and the generator to see if it is intact and turning the generator. Check any circuit breakers/fuses for open circuit. There is a pair of brushes inside the generator that can break sometimes. Anything further will require a wiring diagram at least plus a meter to read voltages and resistance. Good luck!

Where do you remove the Ground Neutral bond on a EU6500is generator? I need to do this to hook it up to a transfer switch as per Service Bulletin #20.

Page 39 of the current owners manual for the both EU6500 and the EM5000 generators indicate that there is not a neutral ground bond on these units.

Per the wiring diagram, the ground pin on the outlets is connected to the frame ground of the generators (on both generators). To have grounded electrical service, a bond wire would connect the generator frame to the ground terminal on the transfer switch. The ground system from the breaker / distribution box (usually to a ground rod) then serves as the electrical ground for the generator, as well as the balance of the rest of the system, satisfying NEC requirements.

See Page 39 in both manuals:
EU6500 EM5000

"The system ground is not connected to the AC neutral
wire. If the generator is tested with a receptacle tester, it will not show the same ground circuit condition as for a home receptacle."
