I have a Brigs&Straton 6.5 Quantum

I have a Brigs&Straton 6.5 Quantum lawnmower will not stay running. I can keep it running by restricting the amount of air entering the carb with my finger (choking it) The mower will start if it is primed but as soon as the extra fuel is burnt it dies. It will stay running if I spray fuel into the carb, if I stop spraying it dies. So when I stick my finger in the carb I am making the fuel mixture richer by increasing the venture effect(I believe). The float level is adjusted to level with the cab upside down. Any suggestions??? Randy

Well I checked all the your suggestions and still the same symptoms. You said you may have another fix?

the problem is in your carb.,at the bottem of the carb. there is a bolt that threads in to the carb.pinch off the fuel line so that no fuel comes out after the fuel bowl is off the mower.now look into the bolt that you took off.there should be a hole oppisit the head of the bolt.there are also two holes that go through the sides.these holes are the fuel intake to the carb, the hole in the center is the fuel nozzle.most likely you have dirt blocking this hole and not letting the motor get enough fuel to run.thake some carb cleaner and spray it in the hole.take an air hose then blow the nozzle out.while you have the screw out take the bowl off and check to see if there is any water or dirt in the bowl.after cleaning.reinstall the bowl and start mower again.should be running ok now.if not let me know and i'll guide you through another fix.let me know if this helped or not................

220.brigs and Stratton oil how much insump

A small qt bottle of SAE 30 wt oil, of ANY brand is fine for use in lawnmowers. The tolerances for the piston ring and cylinder are not so close to warrant more expensive synthetic blends. A simple std grade (cheapest) 30 wt is fine. It is a good practice to drain and refill your lawnmower engine before each cutting season, replace the air filter, and spark plug. Carburetors tend to foul so empty the gas tank at the end of each cutting season by letting the mower run out of gas... empty the float bowl, if it has a drain screw... this will keep varnish and gum from forming when you store it. Keep a spare cord on hand as they break when you least expect them to and when you need to use the mower. Hardware stores sell replacement cord, just cut to lengths as needed.

Hello, I am using the Craftsman 675 Brigs & Station 190 cc lawnmower, and I'm trying to turn up the throttle. It apparently does not have a throttle adjuster, and I was wondering if there is any way...

After researching the engine application, I see that this 675 is NOT an OHV engine. It appears it is the L (flathead) engine with the standard features. The 775-875 Platinum series mowers have OHV engine applications. That being said, many mowers have the carburetors with the governed throttles set to run at the the OEM mandated maximum speed. Some (like the Briggs Quantum series engines) have the throttle plate still attatched. You would need to bend it back up and install an aftermarket throttle cable assembley (like Murray makes). You would connect the carburetor end of the throttle cable to the hole in the plate assembly that has the governor spring attatched. Some even remove the governor entirely (internal governor has to stay in) and connect a throttle cable on the plate controlling the butterfly in the carb. Your unit may have this feature with the plate having a few different holes in it in which you could install the end of an add on throttle cable.

Hi... I have a Poulan PRO Quantum xnp 6.75. Garage kept, unused approximately 2 yrs. Added fuel, primed & mower started but then shut down immediately. Then fuel began leaking from the primer button. I'm a single mom & CANNOT afford to have anyone fix this. However I am attempting to repair myself. PLEASE.... If you have any suggestions &/or solutions I would LOVE to know.
