Question about Kenmore 50522 / 50524 Side by Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

We have a Kenmore Model#363.9552410 that is a side by side with ice maker inside. We noticed the back wall of the freezer was completely frosted over and no ice was being made. We turned off the whole thing and let the freezer "thaw" for a couple of hours. Then we turned it back on and the ice was being made, but then the food part was getting warm after several hours. Any suggestions?

Most likely your defrost timer is defective. Located inside the fresh food section and inside a metal box behind the control panel. Turn the timer slowly clockwise until compressor stops. Wait 30 minutes or until compressor restarts If the compressor does not restart turn again until it starts during this time the freezer should be in defrost and sounds of crackling or sizzling is normal. Let me know what you find. The part number for your defrost timer WR9X489

Hi
There is a definetely leak in the cooling gas.
Firstly... You will need to find from where the gas has leaked. It is usually on the compressor pipes..... but not always.

Secondly you are right about the Water Valve... it needs to be changed.

Ice maker icing up

Sounds like you may have a couple of problems here. The frost build up could be from a bad door seal. Moist air can be drawn in and collect on the inside. As for the water temp, it sounds like the water line connected to the refrigerator could be tapped off a hot water line. It needs to be connected to a potible cold water line.

Side by side fridge not cooling, not making ice

if it seems like the evaporator is getting cold then your sealed system should appear to be ok. you need the evap fan to transfer cold air into fresh food section. if not turning u need to replace fan motor. make sure your not getting to much frost build up on the evap.

Freezer not cold, the meat is melted

Sounds like you have a defrost problem. Pull the back panel off inside of the freezer and make sure the fan is running (evaporator fan motor). If it is, check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat for continuity. If one is bad, you have found your problem. If both are good, replace the defrost timer, adaptive defrost board, or main control board (I'm not sure which you have since I don't have your model number). Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Frost buildup

It is not defrosting.  You have to remove back wall of freezer where frost is and take hairdryer to melt away frost.  You need to check defrost heater.  This is on bottom of evaporator coils.  It has wires going to it on both sides.  This has to be checked for continuity.  If ok on top of coils is a round unit called a defrost terminator.  This needs to be checked for continuity also.  This must be done before you defrost coils.  It should have continuity when its cold.
If these are ok you probably have a bad timer or defrost board.

Refrigerator Not Making Ice, Frost in Freezer and Refrigerator Not Cold

It has a defrost problem.  Most likely cause would be the defrost thermostat which clips onto the evaporator behind the back panel in the freezer.  Next most common would be the defrost timer.  Third would be the defrost heater.  Let me know if you want to try to test these parts.  If so I will need the entire model # from the sticker in the fridge or on older models on a plate at the bottom front below the door.
