Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-V1 Digital Camera

Sony DSC-V1 Shutter Lense not opening

It appears that the shutter lense on my Sony DSC-V1 is not opening. I can see the pictures on the viewer taken in the past, however it will not display on the LCD viewer when taking pictures. I have been told that it isn't worth getting it fixed because the technology has changed so dramatically... that I would spend more getting it fixed than to just go out and purchase a better camera.

It's not clear what you mean by "shutter lense". Are you saying that when you turn on the camera the lens pops out as normal but that the lens protector doesn't open? If so, it can be fixed but I'll be wasting my time typing if I'm barking up the wrong tree!

This digital camera is not worth repairing. 95% of digital cameras can be replaced for less than repairs cost. Best digital camera deals can be found at tigerdirect.com and you will likely find a better camera for less than you paid for this one.

I have a hasselblad 503cx. when i hit the shutter button, the back part of the lens opens (where the film is) but the lens shutter is closed. when i let go, the lens opens and the back closes.

The proper order of exposure should be:

Curtain opens/Lense stops down (unless wide open)
Lense shutter closes
When releasing button, curtain closes
When winding, lense shutter opens

If this isn't what's happening, something is wrong. There is only a simple mechanical screw connection between body and lense, so it'd have to be an issue with the gears in the body.

When i turn on my camera the lense extends but you can not see thru neither the lense or the remote screen. please help

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

How do i turn on the auto timer?

Hi, Follow these steps:
1. In any Still mode, tap Settings to open the Settings panel.
2. Tap Self-Timer/Burst repeatedly, until the desired Self-timer icon appears at the bottom of the LCD: 10 seconds—A picture is taken after a 10-second delay (so you have time to get into the scene). 2 seconds—A picture is taken after a 2-second delay (for a steady, auto-shutter release on a tripod). 2 shot—The first picture is taken after a 10-second delay. A second picture is taken 8 seconds later.
3. Compose the scene. Press the Shutter button halfway, then completely down. The camera takes the picture/pictures

The shutter button does not appear to click down and the lense does not open so no picture is taken. Usually it makes a sound and you know the picture has taken. HELP MEEE????

I had a similar problem with another brand of this type of camera. I would click the shutter and hear it open but it would not go through the series of four lens exposures unless I manually turned the film advance wheel . I think it may be because the motor isn't strong enough to draw the film across and trigger the shots. cheap plastic, ya know. I never got the film developed but im interested to see if it got anything at all.

Camera will shut off then the shutter will close

Yes it could. It is possible a small dirt get on the side of the lense and it prevents the lense to close all the way in. Clean it up and while turning the camera off, push the lense in. Not too hard. You might have to repeat the step a few times. Do not drop your camera, if you did make sure you clean the sides of the popped off lense. If they did not help, some mechanical part of the lense is shifted or broken.

Good Luck

There could be two things causing this problem.

1- some dirt somehow got on the outside of side of the lense. So the lense could not fully retract or open out. As a result you can take any picture. If the lense comes out even a little bit, try to pull it out NOT too hard a few times. If it does not retract, turn the camera off and push the lense in (up and down) NOT too hard foe a few times. If the camera opened up 100% or retracted 100%, your camera should be back to normal.

2- If you dropped the camera, some mechanical part of the lense is broken or dislocated or the cable may have come loose. In this case you need to take out the lense from the camera and inpect it for broken pieces or loose cable. clean the outside of the lense and push the lense in and out a few times. Put the lense back on and your camera would be back to normal.

Good luck!!!!!!

Camera shutter stuck shut

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Sony should fix this for you for free, but it will cost you $15 shipping. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

All I did was to tap on the lens several times and everythings back to normal. I so happy my camera is working again. Thanks to your idea. Brenton
