The cable that went from the bluray drive to the console that was/could be being/be pushed. I removed the cable and reseated the cable (be damned careful if you try this. You have to lift a plastic flange and slide the cable out. a guy broke this flange and figured out that it holds the cable through compression and wedged it back on. So try not to break yours .
The problem seems to be that there are sensors under the bluray drive that may not be making contact with the base of the system. I have opened my unit before to fix a clicking noise. If you put very slight pressure over the area where the disk loads, your disk should begin being recognized.

May sounds like a silly answer, but, do you have your PS3 hooked up to the internet. If not, there are many updates for the system which you are missing and therefore the new games will not play because of missing system updates. Hope this helps you out.
are you useing the linux or windows based ps3..there is a differnce ..firmware updates with the windows based systems..and try updateing the software with the linux based systems..but prolly firm ware for the drive..

The PS3 has a special Recovery Menu, which you can access in the following way;:
1. Turn off Playstation 3. 2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again. 3.
