Question about Harman Kardon HK695 Computer Speakers

1 Answer

Adding speakers to my PC

I have a refurbished Dell PC (Dimension L600r) and I need to install speakers so I can have audio output for listening to the radio online or watching video. I don't see a port for speakers on the back of the PC. There is a "headphones" port in the front of the PC - do I use that or do I need a whole new PC?

Yes you can use the headphone output to drive speakers but be careful about the volume levels you use, as this could damage the speakers. You should opt for the Line Out socket from your Dell which should be on the back side of the device.

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dmum/techovu.htm

shows the backside schematic and where to find the Line Out socket - this has a balanced output that will drive your speakers correctly.

I got a refurbished computer and do not know how to connect the external speakers I bought. I need a diagram or details on how to connect the speakers.

The speaker output for the Dell is the light green audio jack on the back panel. Just plug your speaker connection into that jack.

I have a dell dimension 3000 and i can't get any audio sound. it came with a samsung sw-2525 CD/RW . come to think of it i don't get any sound through the external speakers. it has no internal...

check to see the sound is working under the control panel .. system icon click and goto device manager

you might have a bad driver for the sound device or the device is bad on the motherboard

also test under sound devices.. and set the default device to use ..

Dell Dimension 5100 speaker interference (hiss, pop, crackle etc)

Try downloading the audio driver from Dell at the following link:

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=DIMENSION%205100

Save it to the C: drive in a location you can find. Then run the file to install it.

Audio volume keeps changing by itself

No, the headphone output is designed for 2 speaker output. Just recently I had a customer who had no sound coming from the desktop speakers yet the headphones worked just fine.
I believe that your model has a sound circuit integrated into the motherboard. It may have a “plastic cap” covering the audio ports (next to the USB ports). If you remove the sound card and enable the integrated audio in the BIOS, you can check to see if the sound card is actually the problem.
