Washing machine cant loosen motor to fit new belt

I presume you are in the US
Maytag produce their machines under various names.
Parts can be obtained from
http://www.maytagpartsonline.com/
On most washing machines and dryers you take the back panel off.
loosen the motor retainers and remove the old belt.
Fit the new belt and adjust the tension with the motor retainers and retighten. You normally have about 1/2 inch slack in middle of belt.

There is no tensioner bolt as such; tension is just maintained by the motor support bolts. Please see my notes on belt changes ;-0)

The motor support bolts should be loosened and the old belt removed. Often putting the new belt on is a bit of a struggle, even with the motor 'loose', because it is new and smaller!
Once on it should be tensioned by pulling the motor against the belt firmly- but not over tight- and the motor support bolts tightened.
ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD ANY FORM OF LEVERAGE BE USED TO TENSION THE BELT AGAINST THE MOTOR OR FRAME; THAT COULD LEAD TO DAMAGE TO THE BELT, MOTOR AND BEARINGS- EXPENSIVE!

The motor has a tension bolt that you need to loosen befor you can fit the belt. once the belt is fitted you can retention the motor.

Sounds like you have the motor on top of the machine and the motor has moved. You will need to loosen 1 of the nuts on the motor, put the belt on and lever the motor to create tension on the belt then tighten the nut back up. Hope this helps.

You cannot stretch a belt. There should be a bolt on the motor that you can loosen to allow the motor to pivot, allowing you to easily install the belt.

You shouldn't have to remove the pump to replace the belt. The motor mount can be loosened and the motor moved so the belt will fit over all pulleys without removing the components.

Loosen motor, move it in, install belt, move motor out to correct belt tension, tighten motor mounts.

Youmust loosen the motor bracket bolts and this will allow the motor to swing. Put belt on the motor pulley and feed the belt onto the large drum pulley and at the same time turn the drum pulley so that the belt pulls onto the pulley groove. Put some tension on the motor to tension the belt - not too much tension though. Holding the motor & belt tension, tighten the motor bracket bolts - job done. Should take no more than twenty minutes to complete.

this is a common problem as nowadays stretchy belts are used in order to avoid motor adjustment.
fitting requires some brute force. the way i do it is to put the belt on the motor pulley then start it as much as i can on the drum pulley. turn the drum pulley keeping force sideways to push the belt on and as you turn, the belt will go on
