Cub Cadet 2185 starts and runs as long as I keep starter in the "start" position. Will also keep running if I spray engine start fluid in carb while switch is in "run" position. Fuel pump is working, gas tank flushed, using new gas. Something going on in carb? PTO switch? Starter switch?

SOURCE: A short in the pto wiring perhaps?

Form what you are desribing you have a direct short, probaly in the wiring going to pto. I t has rubbed somewhere and is causing your short. Unplug the wires at connector close to your pto clutch and try it again and see if fuse stuill blows after you unhook it.

If the fuse still blows it is in the wiring going back up to thje switch. If the fuse does not blow after unhooking wiring connector the problem is in the clutch.

SOURCE: Cub Cadet LT1042 PTO won't disengage

If its an electric PTO then the switch on the dash is bad, Its a lever type ungagement then the little break shoes that rub on the blade spindles are either worn out or mis adjusted. If it started when you changed the blade drive belt its possibly the wrong belt??

SOURCE: cub cadet pto won,t stay engaged

Sounds more like a PTO clutch failure, rather than the switch. The clutch is mounted on the engine shaft, between the hydrostatic drive pulley (nearest the chassis) and the mower deck belt pulley (farther from the chassis).
Since it's an expensive part, make sure the problem isn't in the switch or wiring first. You could do that by probing the wires to the PTO clutch with an automotive test light - they are inexpensive and handy. Clip the ground wire of the test light to the chassis, and probe the hot wire to the clutch (it's the one that doesn't connect to ground) when the engine is running and the PTO switch is engaged. Obviously a helper has to be in the seat, and you should be careful doing this. If the light glows brightly, and the clutch doesn't engage, you definitely have a bad clutch. Good luck! Cub Cadet RT65 tiller wont start

If plug is wet then likely it's flooded. A flooded engine won't fire even with starter fluid.

If plug is dry then more likely compression. Place finger over spark plug hole and pull start rope. Compression should forcibly push your finger with Pfffft sound. If little or no compression then possibly a stuck valve or valve adjustment is needed.

Cub cadet with kohler sv725 has compression, and spark wont start even on starting fluid sprayed in carb

There needs to be fuel, air, spark and compression. It may not start with starter fluid if it's already flooded. It may not start if a valve is stuck open.
You can take the sparkplug out and check to make sure it's not got excess fuel. Plug should be dry.

I have a cub cadet GT 2550. Has new battery cranks but will not start. Thinking it's not getting fuel. Checked fuel filter and fuel flows through.

If spraying starter fluid in the intake causes it to run for a few seconds, then you have a fuel problem. That starter fluid is the fuel. If it didn't have spark, it still wouldn't run. I would start checking the carb and make sure nothing is stuck or plugged.

My cub cadet 1046 riding lawnmower won't stay running. I've replaced the fuel filter, both spark plugs, and sprayed carburetor ports with carburetor cleaner and it starts but won't stay running.

When you say "stay running", how long does it actually run for? Will it ALWAYS start and run, even if it dies, or will it sometimes not run at all and only turn over?

Koehler 27 won't start

Take off the bowl on bottom of carb. look for water/fuel issues. Clean it all out. Drain fuel tank look for fuel issues. refill with non-ethanol 89 octane fuel treated with marine grade stabilizer such as Sea-foam. take out plug(s). Crank it without plugs a few times to dry out cylinders. Try it again use starter fluid to start it. Good luck..

Cub Cadet has gas, has spark, has air -still won't start/run

Are you pulling the plug to check for wetness after cranking it a few times, WITHOUT using the starting fluid? Also, I would recommend using carb cleaner in place of the starting fluid. Starting fluid runs the engine VERY hot for a brief time and can possibly damage rings, valves, and aluminum parts.
