error code is model specific---some it means lamp door issue and others something else.

Possible lamp failure but lamp light not status should blink-I have suggestions but want you to try the self check first--if set has been unplugged plug it up and turn on and when it fails:

Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and getthe regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons togetherfor about 5 seconds.
The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.
For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.
Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem:
12 = No error detected, check power supply.
32 = Lamp Cover is open.
33 = Air filtercover is open.
34 = Lamp abnormality
36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped)
37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 = Lamp Temperature High
39 = DMD Temperature High
41 = Short is detected
44 = DVI cablebetween FMT and Engine disconnected

It is the lamp that is reached at end of life span.
Replace lamp in tv if it has not been replaced in last 2-3 years.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and written in user manual.

The lamp light will not come on especially if it lights up during bootup from a cold start. The lamp only lights up on Sony when the lamp shatters in its housing and the system can't ignite the lamp from a cold startup, Sometimes it does'nt light up then. So if it lights when u first cut it on the sysem thinks its ok... But lets verify if the lamp is the problem.

With the tv off using your original remote, Press Display button-----channel 5 button----and Volume up button then Power button within 5 secs of pushing the first button, Screen should come on with a diagnostic screen, Look at the lamp driver option and see if its recorded any numbers to the right of it, if so then this is telling you that the lamp has stopped or tried to ignite that number of times..

Push the number 8 key then enter to reset the numbers back to zero.Turn off power now turn on the television and wait until it happens again, at this point go back to diagnostic as explained eariler and see what it has recorded. If it has recorded a 1 on the lamp driver then replace your lamp. Reminder: Once you have replaced the lamp go to diagnostic screen again and reset the numbers back to zero.

Sounds Lamp is weak in this TV.
Please replace lamp and procedure is written in TV user manual.

3 red flashing is a lamp error, not the fans. the lamp has a problem striking. make sure it's pushed in and plugged in all the way. if the lamp is not that old, the power supply needs replacing.

Have you resetted the lamp timer ? It must be done when a new lamp is inserted into the unit.

You can reset the lamp timer by holding the up arrow key on the Projector in until a online message appears. Then just follow the on-screen instructions.

If the problem persists , you will have to replace the Ballast wich is the lamp's power supply.
