No Sound from my speakers

I recently installed a new os on pc going from xp home to xp pro. Since then I haven't had any sound coming from my speakers. I know that they work because they working prior to the installation. I tried going to control panel to add new hard ware through my PnP but it can not recognize the new hardware. I can't remember if a cd came with the speakers. I also tried looking for new drivers on microsoft but I came up empty handed.

Please Help!!

Ok guys, help a girl out here...

Listening to music with Altec 2100, all of a sudden Woofer stops playing (barely anyway), checked all plugs, took them out and put back in, rebooted, now nothing works. I have power from the remote (green light is on), but thats it.

I'm no techy, so in layman's terms would be best for me!

Thanks so much for your help

OR, you can see in the BIOS if the sound card is disable , or disable and reenable it. most times, make the trick, install the drivers according with the board .
good luck!

It is your sound card that you need a driver for not the speakers. Common built in soundcards are by Realtec. You can check by going to your Control Panel and Sounds And Devices and go to Hardware. You can also check out everything by going to Start, Run, DXdiag, Enter. Here is the driver download site for Realtec.

You also need DirectX 9, you can get it here

Installed windows xp pro now i got no sound coming out vof my speakers

You need a driver most likely. You can find the type of sound ard that you have by going doing a right click on "Your Computer" and selecting properties. After properties, select the hardware tab. On the hardware tab, select device manager. Select sound and see what type of card you have. You can then go to that providers site and download the correct driver.

Another possibility is that your speakers have become disconnected. Check to make sure that the wire is connected.

Same thing happened to me. Luckily I had my motherboard disc and through device manager I reloaded all missing devices and drivers. You may be able to download your motherboard disc from manufacturers website, hope this helps
