SYMPTOM:
Clicks and turns off after turning on set when cold. Have to turn on and off several times to work, or keep changing channels, right side of screen is black for a while.
PROBLEM: It is almost always a bad transistor and a bad capacitor. (about $0.70 in parts)
SOLUTION:
This repair is fairly straightforward. You will need a soldering iron, a solder ******, and a small torx bit. Unplug the set. Lay the TV on the floor, screen down. Remove the torx screws holding the rear cover on. There should be 10, (don’t forget the 2 by the input panel). You will see 2 circuit boards, the one of interest is the large one near the bottom of the set. This board has a retainer clip on each side that needs to be pulled out to allow the circuit boardmy tv fickers and shuts off ? - 2.gif to slide out. Slide the board out about 5-6 inches. You might need to support the board so it doesn’t slide back down into the TV set. This circuit board should have numbers by each of the components. You want to look for 7461 (transistor) and 2455 (capacitor). They are located right next to each other near the center of the board. The transistor will usually overheat and discolor the circuit board immediately around it. Warm up the soldering iron and get the solder ****** ready. Heat up the solder joint while removing excess solder with the ******. Once the transistor and capacitor are free, check the numbers on each. The capacitor (round cylinder) should have “47uf” on it. The transistor should have “C33725” on it. You can order these parts from Digi-Key (google it) for about $2.50 including shipping if you use USPS option. The part numbers are: 493-1060-ND for the capacitor and BC33725-ND for the transistor. Once you get your parts, solder them in and check TV operation. It should work as it did before. This repair can be done by anyone familiar with a soldering iron in about 30-45 minutes their first time. Good Luck!!

Thank you for your hints! I replaced just the capacitor and it works like a champ. My picture has always looked great, once it decided to stay on. Now it comes on like it is suppose to.

    Thanks again!

Panasoni TH42PH9UK works for 5-60 minutes then sound and picture goes out. Green "on" light remains on (no blinking) and tv somtime comes back on or flickers on and off. TV is 2007 and does the same

It may be overheating.
Check the vents in the back to see if they are clogged.clean out any dust or lint. Alum if necessary make sure there is room for airflow around vents . Check to make sure blower fan is operating correctly.
Hope this helps.

Power on red light and green light fickering but tv doesnt start

Good day!!!

That problem is usually cause of faulty capacitors on the power supply board..

Just follow this instruction to fix your TV..

1. Open the back cover of your TV.
2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..
3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..
4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..
5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter

52" tv making clicking sounds

Does the blue light just stay steady or does it blink? Also please tell me the make and model of the tv. Sounds like a problem due to capacitor plague but I would like to be sure.

Projection TV keeps shutting down

Good Day;

Sounds like you have a bad green picture tube that has failed. To check this out; remove front speaker grill, remove small panel, you will see three CRT's (pictue tubes) sticking down, remove the little board on the middle tube then restore power. If TV stays on more then likely the CRT is bad but not always the driver on board could also be bad, check voltages.

Good Luck, big IRISH.
