Go to the following URL: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=120&modelid=10242#DownloadDetailAct . Use the drop-down menu to select your OS (32 or 64 bit Win 7). You will find the drivers and the CanoScan Toolbox.
had the same problem. take off the two framing pieces of plastic that run along the edges of the glass (they are stuck on with glue so use a knife). prize the glass out of the unit and check that you can move the scanning moving part up and down. remove any bits of plastic. test the moving parts by replacing the glass and scanning. mine seems to work fine now, fingers crossed. x
Open the CanoScan Toolbox.
Click the Save option.
Put a check in the box that states "Display the Scanner Driver".
Click Scan.
Click the Advanced Mode tab.
Make sure Select Source is set to "Platen".
Click the Preview button at the top left.
If the error still occurs, then most likely it will be a service issue.
One thing to check...see if the inside lamp illuminates when you turn the scanner on using the power button at the back left side of the scanner.
