Trying to hook up my printer

I have a new emachines desktop and I am trying to hook up my printer using a USB cord, but I don't know which port is which. it's asking whether its in port lpt1,2,3,etc... its not labeled. I have it in the usb port right next to where the internet is plugged into. It didn't come with a diagram...

when I just guessed which port it was I got to the ''select type of printer'' portion and HP Laser jet 1022 wasn't even an option! what do I do?

Hook up the USB cord from printer to any free one on the PC. Once you power on the printer, the computer will detect a new device. It will ask for a driver. Insert the CD and wait. If you have the installation CD, you can also start with that and it should install the drivers. This would not be a LPT port but one of the USB. Id you already went though it, during install, have to do a manual selection and choose Have Disk and point to either the CD or any folder where you have the drivers on the computer.

My mother board is bad. I am going to get a new computer but I would like to know how to get all my information from the hard drive to my new computer.

Just take the hard drive out of your old computer and hook it up to another computer via a usb port with a device like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002

Then when you have it hooked up to your new computer via the usb port just transfer the files you need from the old computers hard drive to the new computers hard drive in windows explorer..

Emachine doesn't recognize the ethernet cord when plugged in

Sounds like the integrated ethernet port has gone bad. You can install a new ethernet card in one of the PCI expantion slots. Then plug the ethernet into the new card, this should take care of the problem. You can not repair a bad integrated ethernet port.

Which usb port do i plug my 3 in 1 printer in on my e machine?

It means you have a port that has 2.0 USB and your device is being placed on a 1.0 port, you would need to buy a 2.0 pci card with 2.0 USB port hookup to the motherboard and hook u the 2.0. you have an older computer that had the 2.0 USB installed on the board but not hooked up to any USB ports.

could you try another cable, maybe the cable is the problem. If not, test the port if it detects other devices. If not disconnect the printer and install first the driver and then when it asks for the printer, hook it up.
