Question about Boating

We have a '95 Mercury 90 hp two-stroke that came with a Nitro 170

We have had it worked on three times, the first two times the shop hooked up their own gas supply to get it running. They stated that two of the three cylinders were running great, but one was gummed. They wanted to rebuild all three iof them. Being in a limited budget we asked that they only fix the one that was faulty. So they did, then they call us and we come get it, and go out one day to try it and it was starved enough for gas that you could not get on plane, and it was now suddenly giving a Low oil warning, So we took it out and hauled it back home. Then back down to the shop. they said the problem was that they had not hookedc up our tanks fuel supply when they were working on it and that the oil float had broke and needed replaced. So they work another $200 into the bill. and give us a call. So now we are on vacation and just tried the boat, and it run fine for a few hundered yards and started running sour again. They had replaced a 45degree elbow that has a flow restriction. the Guy explained that when he squeezed the bulb it stayed collapesd. So once again it is fouling the plugs. runniung sour, and cant get on plane to save its soul. Can there be any chance we got some ethanol that is breaking down the gas tubes? or possible causing plug fouling>?

First thing is to find anthor shop you need to change the plugs drain the oil out of the resvoir and mix the gas and oil 50;1 that will keep you from fouling plugs and will probally fix your problem it sounds like it is getting to much oil try that and comment me back and we will get it fixed good luck try to enjoy your vaca

Other than head gasket how can water get into oil on 90 hp 4stroke merc ob

Water seldom gets into the engine oil, but more often in the lower gear case through the seals behind the propeller. If you have water in the oil of the head unit, then a blown head gasket is likely the cause.

Seems to be a known problem, and may just be the gasket between upper and lower unit.

Are the controls for a 1998 15 HP 2 stroke Mercury outboard compatible with a 2011 30 HP 4 stroke Mercury outboard

If your old engine/control has the same 'options' as the30hp, yes everything is compatible... (Electric start or trim )
The throttle and shift cables are allways compatible...

Full throttle

check when its on full throttle that the carb butterfly is at 90deg and not over as this will reduce throttle but max advance on ignition !

I have a 2005 90 HP Mercury outboard 2-stroke. I replaced the Faria
multi function gauge (Tach-fuel-volt meter) with a GT0054A gauge.
The old gauge was a GT0057A, which I can't find. My question is what
setting do I place the dial on for a 3-cylindler Mercury.

Check your "sync n link" of the throttle pick up and the ignition timing.

I have a Mercury 90 HP 2 stroke. that back fires at an idol whet do i do

The fuel mix is very important most modern engins run with 100 to 1and we are use to ruining older mixes like 33 or 50 to 1, sometimes the mix is written on the cowling. if not refere to the workshop manual some times available at a library.

can't start my 1993 bayliner 1400 jazz. replaced key switch, kill switch today. I got the boat last week running.
