I have a GE air conditioner with ditigal panel. I set the temp to to 64 degrees and then the room temp displays. And the room temp never gets below 72 degrees. Its a 10,500 btu for 417 sq ft. Is there something wrong with the unit?

The unit is brand new. Not even a week. Even when I'm alone in the living room it never goes below 72 degrees. I only turn it on during the day.

Wash out outside coil from time to time. This is the most over looked part of window units. Take care not to spray water directly into fan motor. If not real humid in house check temp coming out of ac inside and make sure filter and coil are clean. run on high speed and the air should have good force. 20 to 30 degree temp drop of room temp should be about right. Much depend on outside temp and humidity and indoor humidity plus insulation factor of area. How many people are in the area and if you keep unit on day and night .

Where do you live. If it is really hot out that might not be to bad. Not leaving it on to keep humidity down can also effect the cooling. If you have a lot of sun exposure and not much insulation and leaky windows this too will affect it. let it run after sun down and see if it comes down more. Also check and make sure that it hasn't got a low limit override built in. You may be able to change that by reading your owners manual. With the info I have to go on I would say it is doing all it can.I would let it run all night and see what it doe's. You may need to set it up some as it may get too cool.

I am not sure, i have a similiar unit that is brand new, seems like a faulty mechanism from the maker, it starts cold for about 2-3 minutes and then shuts down condenser and blows hot air repeating this cycle. I don't believe it ias a recharge, just a faulty machine

When I cool the room it doesn't drop to the temperature I have it set to but a few degrees celcius higher. Is that normal? I honestly never checked on my old unit but this one doesn't seem to feel as cool.

there is suppose to be 15--20* temp. different on the air supply & return air temp.Over 20* and the coil or the filter is plugged up. Below 13*--anf the unit is not charged properly.

My Whirlpool window a/c is not cooling as well as it did last sum

I know it has been at least a year since your post. I am answering the post to terminate FixYa site activity on the post.

Remove the front cover. Check the routing of the temp sensor wire. It should go from the bottom of the control panel to the plastic clip in the evaporator coils. If it is touching the eavporator coils it will sense the refrigerant temp and cycle off early. If the unit is freezing up there is a restriction in the coolant lines and usually will require the coolant system be purged of foreign internal debris.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My appartment does not have cenral AC/heat, it has a GE cooling/heater unit in each room. You can set up low heat or high heat but it continues runing on until you manually stop it when is to hot. Is there...

the unit runs all the time because of the fan (ventilation motor)-but it is not working on cooling or heating all the time - The ventilation motor pushes the air from the room through the machine and when the termostat is reading that you set it up for cooler air or warm air it will turn on the air conditioning part or the heating part of the machine-it is very good system actually

Samsung 8000 btu window air conditioner

Air conditioners rely on a difference in pressure between the "high side" and "low side" in order to perform. Of course, a/c's are designed to work in the heat. Having a cooler outdoor temp of 70 degrees probably is not sufficient to maintain adequate head pressure and will result in reduced cooling capacity. Also, since it was 68 in the morning in the room, it is possible that the indoor coil began to freeze up. Basically, you have a cold coil that you keep warm by moving air over it. If the air doesn't have enough specific heat (what your thermometer measures) it can allow the coil to get colder than 32 degrees and the condensate from all of your humidity will begin to freeze on the coil. My recommendation would be to check the a/c on a day that is 80+ degrees. If you have an avarage indoor temp of 70 degrees you should be able to look for the air coming out to be approximately 20-25 degrees colder than the air being sucked in.
