SOURCE: I have a new Dell

I'm assuming you are using some version of MS Windows.

I found this on the Dell support website;

  • Click Start.
  • In the Search box type main.cpl, click main.cpl in the list of programs.
  • In Windows XP click Run, type main.cpl in the box next to Open, click OK.
  • Click the Dell Touchpad tab.
  • Click on the picture of the touchpad.
  • Click Touchpad Settings.
  • Make sure there is a check in the box to the left of TouchCheck, move the slider bar all the way to the right (this can always be adjusted back).
  • Uncheck the box to the left of b>Tap to Click.
  • Move the slider in the Touch Sensitivity area to the right until it is 3/4 of the way toward Heavy Touch.
  • Click Apply, then click OK.
  • Click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.
Hope this helps ;)
