Question about Garden

1 Answer

Battery has full charge, has a clicking noise around mower deck up front when turning key. Sounds like a solenoid kicking in but not turning the starter, soenoid is okay, starter is okay. Is there a safety switch near the drive pulley for the mower not to let the start.

this sounds like the starter is no good that`s why you get a click noise and why bypassing the solenoid it won`t turn over. the armature must be drawing more amps than what can be supplied.

Riding lawn mower stopped working, now it just makes a clicking noise when you turn the key, the grass was pretty high when this happened...did the engine blow?

clean the battery posts for one, and make sure the unit has a full 12 volts in the battery ,, these units charge slowly as it is, and if the battery gets to low, the machine will just quit, you try and start them, and all you get is a click

Test the battery with a volt/ohmn meter to ensure it reads at least 12-14 volts. Check all the safety switches located underneath the seat & the mower deck engage handle is disengaged. Check all battery wire connections are soldi, not corroded. Check wiring on starter solenoid from battery & to key switch.

Mower won't start. Makes clicking noise.

Check the battery terminal connections for cleanliness and that they are free of corrosion. If the contact is corroded, this is what the clicking would be from.
The battery could be charged, but if the connection is dirty, the power won't be able to engage the solenoid properly.
Hope this helps.

sounds like the starter is stuck or not engaging or the solenoid is faulty,, first look for a bad earth from the engine to the battery or loss or dirty battery leads

Murray 18hp 42 deck wont start

Hi.

The best advice here is to put your battery on charge, and, while it is charging, remove each connection, and clean the terminals back to "bright and shiney". The clicking noise is probably the solenoid trying to pull in to provide power to the starter. There also sounds like the comnnection to the starter needs to be removed and cleaned. If this connection is dirty or loose, it can arc and smoke without cranking. Also, if the terminals at your solenoid are corroded, the motor cannot recharge the battery on the run, and loss of power to the battery will result. Clean your connections, and try again!
This should correct your issues. In extreme conditions, it may be necessary to replace your wire from the solenoid to the starter, if it is significantly deteriorated, but I'd clean it all up first.
Best regards, --W/D--

Murray 17.5 HP mower - no noise when turning key? Maybe ignition?

Look near the starter solenoid for a fuse. It is probably under the hood near the steering column. If fuse is good, problem is likely a safety switch.
